Will this setup play hd video at 720p? - Page 2

if my atom n280 can play 720p, so can p4.with help of CoreAVC and a decent media player (something like mpc) you will be able to easily play 720p at normal bitrates. but 1080p could be an issue.
also upgrading your ram would be pointless, for that money get a used graphic card that can decode h.264.

The HD2450 I mentioned will do it and it's available in AGP. That is how mine was. I'll look around to see if I still have it.

Before I upgraded to signature rig I had a Northwood 2.8 running stock with an AGP 7600GS (no CUDA or DXVA). I never had *any problem whatsoever* with 720p using coreavc and any of the players with built in codecs: KM Player, Potplayer, GOM player, etc. CPU was typically at 50%.

1080p was another matter altogether, a complete fail.

I think Core AVC is pretty essential to this kind of set up and well worth the few $ it costs.

used to run a p4 3.4ghz with 2 gigs of ram and an ATI radeon x1950pro agp

I couldn't play 1080p mkv's smoothly even with coreavc..

smootest way I could play 720p movies was with coreavc through ps3 media server lol

could play them @720p but with some hiccups

Supports both Flash/DXVA acceleration, and will offer superior performance vs. software based playback.
