In quadfire vs quad-Sli? I don't know. AMD is beating NVidia in scaling with multiple GPU's so I'm inclined to say AMD. Though IIRC NVidia's quad-sli scales better with the 2600k's high clocks than it did with the older core series...

Good question. =)

A single 580 is around 5-10% faster then a single 6970. But 580s are overpriced.

At higher resolutions, 6970 Crossfire has better scaling then 580 SLI, so they are faster then 580 SLI 1.5GB, but on par with 580 SLi 3Gb.

3X6970 Tri-Fire is also on par, or better then 580 Tri-SLI.

Not true, 580 sli doms in single and sli. They also benefit from clocking much more. If you have the money the 580 will satisfy your needs, if not the 6970 is a much cheaper and capable alternative.

What Uncivilised said. If you have the coin go for 580's. I was previous owner of 3x6970's and moved on to 3x580's. I think a couple members moved on from 6970's to 580's. I also saw someones sig rig saying "XFX 6970 CFX (580 SLI in discussion)"

Not at all. Go read OCN Metro 2033 and 3D Mark 11 benchmark threads for fun. I'm beating almost every highly OCed 580 Tri-SLi set-ups with a Tri-Fire set-up..

Stop reading old benchmarks made by Tom with CPUs running at 3.8, and with old drivers.

580 SLi faster then 6970 Crossfire is a myth since all those benchmarks came out 6-8 months ago. But they are not true anymore with latest drivers.
