Buy new FX CPU or... - Page 5

the only thing BD is good at is highly threaded apps which are not what you do with your rig so you'd better off going SLI.

Did any one try setting the CPU affinity in these reviews to see how that actually played out? Could just set the CPU Affinity to the maxiumum number of cores the game or app can use and set everything else to the other cores, re-run the test, be interesting if that makes any difference.

Seriously though, the 560 more than enough for modern games, save the money and upgrade to a new platform later on. Or use the money to spend on peripherals.
Sigging the first part. I lold hard.

When overclocked to 4.0ghz or more, it is still quite capable.

Intel is better. But I don't see the justification in spending the money to change platforms now. Remember, I said that it depends on the games as well.
Cool man, I did try to insert foot in mouth after posting that. I suppose SLI performance isn't that horrid depending on the game. My logic is if you intend on going SLI/crossfire, don't start off by kicking yourself in the foot 5-50fps(depending on game) by going AMD.

Save your money for a Sandy Bridge rig or Ivy Bridge. Your rig is already awesome.

In modern DX-11 games with large resolutions like BF3 FX is the winner. I guess if you are playing AOE @ 1024x768 then your "logic" is valid.

by drop i hope you mean that they will actually PAY ME to get it, since most of the benches i saw showed that the FX 8150 lost to the Ph 2 X4.

Considering that graph doesn't show SLI, or Crossfire scaling I don't see how it's applicable to the conversation.

I'd really like to see some benches of a FX chip with 2 or 3 hd6970's, or gtx580's comparing to i7's, i5's, and phenom II's.

I'm basing my SLI/Crossfire experience with a phenom II off my own experience with a phenom II x4, and 2 gtx470's. I found gaming performance to jump 10-30 FPS on average on most of the games I play after switching to i5 760 from phenom II x4 945, and that was last year.

I did find this review comparing SB to a x6, with 990, and the results are better than what I had with my x4 CPU, but still loses to Intel, though not as severely.

[edit] Also considering IPC efficiency is worse on BD than phenom II, I can't expect BD to magically be able to scale GPU's better than Intel, or a Phenom II. That being said, I'd still like to see the results.

Thread Starter
Thank you for all your replies.

I was told that my Antec TruePower New 650watt would be plenty enough to run 2 GTX 560 ti in SLI.

I used PSU Calculator v0.98. It told me a 550watt would be enough power. http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...a-release.html

My PSU has 54A total. Which according to MSI 2 GTX 560ti SLI only requires 42A. http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/...graphics-cards
