Miui: Losing 3g constantly? Help please!

Howdy,

I'm on 1.8.10 (most recent as of last night I could download from here)

I've JUST got miui, sooo awesome! I'm so uber excited...

But... my 3g "DATA" switch that I have ON... keeps turning the hell off.. I've tried 3g only, 3g prefered, and 2g... (why not...).

Before I switched, I had the standard google os for the i9000 samsung. :/
It never had the "loss" of 3g data randomly by the "switch" turning off...

Where in the power saving features does it have to turn off 3g? I'm wanting to keep it on, always...

I use skype on it, to chat with the wife while i'm on the road (parked, safely or inbetween service calls I deal with), and I need to be able to communicate.

She can only use skype (not text) due to work restraints, and skype is part of her work. Win for her, win/lose for me if the phone keeps f*ing up... (Pardon me, tad annoyed, I apologize for any offense).

Can anyone do me a literal favor... a simple "press this, then this, then this" walk through to force 3g on permanently? Yes I know it'll use power, Yes I know it'll shorten battery life... On the road, I have a usb charger I keep it plugged in every now and then when I need to, i'm ok for battery loss...

You sure you have the APN settings entered correctly? That's the only reason I can think why data wouldn't work...

Try different modem maybe. I'm running stock JVT 2.3.5 with KG3 modem.

Try clearing your cache and flashing a different modem. JVR is working great for me on 1.10.7..

APN ? I've not touched much in settings, mind giving me a reference to what you mean? Thanks!

Mcdown and Brand064, can you elaborate what you mean by a diff modem? I'm curious to know what you're refering to and more then happy to install a much higher performance one that'll give me the added edge of awesomesauce.

linky. Basically, find the one for your carrier and make sure it is there.

I believe they mean a radio, it is the equivalent of the firmware for a DVD player or a BIOS for a computer. It'll give you no benefit in performance, but since it controls everything stuff like 3g and wifi signal can be slightly improved. However, I doubt this is your problem as more often than not a bad radio kills more than one thing, or everything(and you end up with a bricked phone).

Flashing a different modem will sometimes yield improved network performance in your area. To find the best modem for your area, you'll need to use some trial and error, since the modem that works best for me probably won't be best for you.

I don't have a step-by-step guide, but it's pretty easy to flash a modem in ClockworkMod. Here are a few to try:

Flashing a bad radio/modem won't brick your phone.

My bad, just noticed that it was a SGS... I've been helping lots of people with sensations as of late, must've thought he had one too

As for bricking phones with corrupt radios, it does on HTC phones(as with bootloaders). I always assumed it just happened with other android phones but I guess not
