I wasn't shocked at all. I was told several times before I did my upgrade to wait til BD comes out and compare it to the 2500K or 2600K. Now that there's benchmarks I'm so glad I went with the 2500K. No regrets!

I just hope one day AMD can pull a little closer to Intel. Right now their still playing catch up to the evil empire. It's gonna be a long wait until AMD beats Intel in the CPU market!

well that was why I didn't expect it to be amazing...I knew it was not going to take the performance crown, but I was expecting it to at least be a substantial amount better than the Phenom 2's in EVERY test...not just a few.

I never expected this from Kyle but its blatantly obvious what happened with their extremely GPU bottlenecked gaming reviews.
I don't see the [H] review as watered down. Unless you consider not harping on the obvious as watered down? The conclusion is extremely frank "hot, power hungry, 8120 best bang for buck of FX line but still no reason to get it over the 2500K".

Am I surprised? Yes, but with the connections I have - the general response is "something is very wrong". ASUS is scrambling today - looks like a bomb went off. Then you have the simple logic of why did they release at all if the performance was that bad? I am still waiting to see what happens.

Dont try to take this as being a Fanboy or anything, I have owned intel rigs too...

I think BD needs to be in the wild for a little bit. They radically changed how things are worked under the hood with these new chips. BIOS updates will come, and they may help performance, hell I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some windows update that comes down the road.

Really though look at the actual diagrams now, They essentially have two cores inside a core. Not quite, but close. Everything right now just needs time to adjust. In a month I will consider the benchmarks valid, until then BD is just an infant.

Yes, I am surprised Bulldozer loses to Phenom II in many benchmarks. I was expecting Bulldozer to fall somewhere in the middle of the performance gap between Phenom II and Sandy Bridge.

Although I must admit I would be more surprised if Bulldozer had closer performance to Sandy Bridge then to Phenom II. So yeah, basically I thought Bulldozer would fail, but not to this extent.

It would be nice if there were some performance fixes in store for us. But not something you can pin a purchase decision on until they actually happen.

Thank you...took the words right out of my mouth...

I've read 75% of the reviews posted on the AMD BD Reviews thread and I have to admit that the initial results are disappointing...

I too have been in both sides of the camp...settled with AMD as the cheaper solution on my sig rig.

It's a new form of technology, give it time to grow...took them years to develop this architecture...like everything else that's new, it will have it's bumps.

I will have to admit that it is pretty stupid of me to wait for BD as I got sucked into to hype since last year, but now that I have waited, why not wait a little bit more?

I am the only one here that does have any kind of patience left for these kinds of things?

I remember before upgrading that I would get the Gen1 iCore series, then they ran into some issues with their controllers. Looking at the fact that my work relied heavily upon data storage I made the decision to go AMD as a temporary stop-gap. Couldn't be happier...then the new iCores came out and then learned about BD.

Made the decision to wait as my hardware that I bought would be supported by my stop-gap upgrade...

Disappointed by the initial results really...

But for me...
Instant Gratification = i5 2500k / i7 2600k
Optimistic Outlook = BD

[H]'s Phenom II review included CPU bound gaming benchmarks to show which CPU was actually faster instead of trying to mask a slow cpu with a GPU bottlenecked situation. Their conclusion?

"The Phenom II performance speaks for itself. It loses to its old nemesis, the Core 2, which I think some folks will be surprised by. The Phenom II loses to the Core i7, which I think was to be expected. The Phenom II is a loser. "

[H]'s Bulldozer review included obvious GPU bottlenecked situations. CPU bound gaming situations were missing because we all know AMD asked them not to, and [H] did what they were told. Their conclusion?

"Our general take-away from our time with the AMD FX-8150 and gaming is that the game matters when it comes to performance deltas. "

I lost a lot of respect for a review site that lost their backbone. Bulldozer is a HUGE flop while phenom II was just slightly disappointing yet after reading both reviews it seems they think Phenom II failed worse? Sorry but no, hell no.
