6950 artifacts, solved by undervolting?

Hello everyone and this is my first post on the forums!

I'd like to explain an issue that I've been having since a couple weeks and that I solved this morning by undervolting my 6950.

The problem: I was having lots of spikey artifacts in some games only. The 2 games the mostly affected was Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends. No artifacts at all in Battlefield Bad Company 2 or BF3 beta for example.
No artifacts either in benchmarking programs like Furmark or 3dMark11.

Here's a video of what the artifacts looked like (the video is short):

Alt-Tabbing didn't make the artifacts go away, and lowering the graphics helped a little bit but not completely. I tried re-installing Windows, formatting, re-installing drivers, re-clocking my CPU to stock clock, re-installing games. Nothing worked..

So this morning I was playing with MSI AfterBurner and undervolted the 6950 from 1100 to 1075 and voila! no more artifacts in HoN or LoL. The card is also OC to 840mhz and memory to 1270mhz and it seems to be stable.

I don't understand why! I thought increasing voltage would solve the problem mabye but it was making it worst! And I know my card is not overheating.

Any ideas?

If the GPU is unstable at stock speeds/voltage then the card must be returned right away for a replacement.
