msi gtx 580 refuses to fire up???

Thread Starter
i need some help guys. I've just tried putting a new msi gtx 580 twin frozr II into my rig. unfortunately its a no go. no warning beeps on startup just an occasional 'no signal' message on the screen. no boot or bios just a blank screen. I've stuck my gtx 260 back in and everything fires up fine. I've got not overclock currently on my CPU only the RAM timings are changed

anyone got any ideas?

You sure you're plugging the power cords in all the way? Sorry but we have to get this out of the way...

Could be a bad PSU also... That is a great unit made by CWT but QC slip ups happen to everyone.

Also that "HW" should be "HX"

yea. all leads are in as tight as they will go. its never made a difference on my 260 but changing them round doesnt affect it at all? the fans are going on the card and the computer doesnt reset continuously it just sits in an idle state with a black screen

thanks for the spelling error. id never noticed it.

I would attempt to try the card in another machine but other than that it looks like it might just be a dud card.

I haven't seen things like that make a difference. A GPU should at least post right out of the box. I think your next step is to just try the card in a separate machine if at all possible. If that's not possible then I would wait a day or two to see if anyone on here can think of anything that I'm missing but if nothing else comes up I would RMA.

have you tried the other dvi output?

You could try to reset your Bios, that's what did the trick for me when my HAWK wouldn't post when I first installed it too.

Cheers.

With a board that old it might. Its an asus so you can easily update it w/ usb drive. I need to do mine also...

try this it may help. Unplug your monitor from the wall. Turn the computer on and if will boot up, then plug the monitor back in.
Sometimes a re-seat, remove it from the motherboard. Check tabs make sure they are clean, then plug it back in.

working!!! dont know how. i gave up last night. booted it up when i got in from work tonight and she's running. weird. cant explain in. windows did have a half hour update session last night. not sure if that was weirding it out.

only complaint. why are all graphics cards the wrong way round??? you'd think all that lovely engineering would be on the top so you could see it. not facing the bottom of my coolermaster. crazy!!!!

cheers for the suggestions
