GTX 480 SLI + Antec 620's Mod - Page 23

Guys i cant seem to get my heatsink off the card, i took of shroud, turned it over and unscrewed the 4 screws on the 570 but the heatsink just twists a little in place, how much force is required to take it off?

EDIT: *Trollface* It was just the paste being sticky =p, all good. I have to use a h60 though, i ordered both an h60 and a 620 but i dont think a 620 will fit, tubes to thick, not enough play =( i hope its not to hard with a h60.

EDIT2: H60 not gonna work, to big for card, back to 620 seems like it will fix, just had to twist the pipes a little. MOD is on hold atm, zip ties are too thick, will resume once i get thinner ones, what a bummer -_-.

Well i can use the h60 for my cpu, but wondering, is the fan necessary on the rad? I dont really feel like mounting it out side of the htpc case -_-.

First off you WILL need to put a fan on the rad, this is most important as the fan will be what keeps the liquid cool while going throught the rad. Strange the H60 will not work as ive seen another use it for this same mod but then again all cards are difffernt. LOL, i had the same problem when i did my card the last time. Got home to find out the pack of zippys i bought were to large for the holes on the card. Perfect to collar the pump but too big for the holes.

Take pics and post them for where you are right now, keep us up to date. WOOT

The 620 seems to be the one of choice for this mod so it may have worked out for you anyways in the end.

We are here to help anyway we can. Just ask the question or for a pic and it can be posted for you.

Good luck, cant wait to see it thumb.gif

well still waiting on those zip ties,I hope my bro can find some other wise I might split one of the thicker ones in half. Mean time, what needs to be done:

  • Install new i7 from retail edge (upgrade from i5) ( Cant stand how you have to take the whole mobo appart -_-)
  • install CPU H60
  • install 620 GTX 570

Should be dont by tomorrow, got a law exam to study for as well.

Looks good. Do you have a shot of your heatsink, your 570 is a different style to my 560ti and I wanted to see how air blows through it. Are you going to try to keep the shroud intact?.....that would look awsome.
Yes ill post a pic of the sink in a bit. In terms of keeping the shroud on, impossible in my case i think. The hole is no where near it. Should be starting working on it again in an hr or so. Just got done replacing the i5 + installing H60 mount.

So since i need a outside fan on the rad i was trying to see the best way to get the fan wire inside the case, Im just wondering, if i wrap tape around the wire will that protect it from being cut? Cause i dont want to cut the wire on a new typhoon by accident if the case lid is to sharp.

And do i want the fan blowing air in to the rad or sucking out?

What case are you using for that HTPC? Air need to flow thru so you can have it either way as intake or exhaust, as long as there's another fan on the other side or top moving air in the same direction. Try both ways to see which give you better temps.

It's preferable to "push" air through the rad opposed to drawing the air (pull) through the rad when using a single fan. Its most effective this way but when in a pinch you do what you have to right.

I would try to remove the connector off the fan wire and then pull the wire though one of the venting holes. Attach the connector again on the other side. Takes only a second or two.

0_0 you can take the connector off? I was thinking about that but i thought i would break it or something, learn something new =).
Progress update, 620 has been attached to the card, a bit of a pain but pretty sturdy, if you try hard there is like really really tiny play i think, could be just my imagination but should be sturdy enough for it to have good contact. Ill make a thread tomorrow of the whole result but atm some progress pics, ill put it together in about 2hrs or so.
