Obviously, for some starter enthusiasts, like myself, who've made indiscriminate 990fx purchases BD is starting to look like a mistake. But ATM for me, its a ballache to sell, i'd like to see this through anyway, see what happens. experience an unknown chip. Intel maybe when i'm richer.
I don't get this logic. Obviously you have some sort of budget. Why waste money on an AMD chip you know won't give you the performance you want?

Spend a little more on the Intel in the first place so you don't have to worry later.

My budget is scraped together.

Maybe I have been naive but it was just convenient that this board came along. I have always wanted to go crossfire, seemed like the logical option to stick with amd and BD looked promisingly cheap.

Honestly.. I don't think i ever contemplated going intel. Why would I when things were going swimmingly with this rig?

Upgrading has given way to a HTPC i have in the works, cheapest route to this is through these cheap AMD components. Bulldozer was just a cheeky little upgrade on route. Ah well..

Just don't say you weren't warned about the inevitable bottleneck with the HD 6950s in CFX.

Why do you say 6950s will bottleneck in Crossfire?

Pfft.
BD performs comparably in pretty much all 4 core apps, and does well in multithreaded.
Does it kick holy ass in either?
No way.
But it's "pretty good" in both, and for 890/990 board users, it's much cheaper to just grab one than to get an SB and mobo.
At least for me it is.
It will run my games just as well as my 955, barring a frame here or there, and do encoding far better.

I plan on getting one soon, regardless. I need one more AMD chip for my 3rd computer since I toasted one of my Phenom II's. I'll put the BD in my sig rig, migrate the Thuban to my wife's, and drop her Athlon II into my kids' computer.

The only question is which one I will buy. I like the idea of the special edition with bundled water cooler (Kuhler 920 is sweet), but if the 4100's can indeed unlock additional cores I might just get that (waiting for some reviews on that). BD looks like a great chip to tinker with and overclock/bench. I always find a way to polish a turd. I am an expert of making great chicken salad out of chicken crap ^^
