If there really is a L1 cache bug that's causing errors, that would very easily explain the extremely high power consumption though. Especially if the reviewers didn't have the fix installed (assuming there is one).

All I really know, is that something just doesn't feel right here. It's fully possible that AMD completely screwed up and released a dud.

I think this is going to be like the Phenom I issues. It absolutely sucked on release, but after they released the TLB fix, it wasn't that bad of a chip at all. And it proved to be even better ~6 months down the road with the second revision chips that came out that could do 3.0GHz and higher.

It's a fully new architecture, it has its issues. It happens. (shrugs)

All I can tell you, is that I know of at least one OCN member that has had an FX 8150 for a while now, and he will be posting his results when he's ready to.

I saw what PIO eluded to and it sounds like desperate clutching at straws:

"It's a rumor for right now, seeing as how no real users have a Bulldozer to verify MS Hotfix's on it.

However, supposedly information that goes to the L1 cache, sometimes gets corrupt and gets resent again in Bulldozer (that's a bad thing). It could potentially increase power draw, and lower performance significantly (which we have seen). Supposedly there was an MS Hotfix released yesterday to resolve the issue. Keep in mind that the reviews we've seen were all done a week or more ago easily.

Not to mention BIOS issues that could still have been there.

It's all rumor and heresay at this point. However, it is 110% fully possible that the software wasn't FULLY ready for Bulldozer at the time of the reviews. Now, that's not going to make a HUGE impact in performance / power consumption. However, it could easily lessen the blows that we've been seeing, and make it a more competitive chip."

It's hilarious stuff really but for me and anyone else with an ounce of common sense, the reasons he highlighted are enough for me to take my business else where.

AMD have had 5-6 years to get this right and they still, somehow, can't even manage to give reviewers the correct software before launch! Then they launch it in this shambolic state of needing further software patches and BIOS updates. That alone is enough for me to not buy their product, let alone the shocking IPC that even with software patches and bios updates is not likely to beat their previous outdated Phenom 2 products. Bottom line is these fools don't know what they are doing.

So im done with AMD cpu's for the forseable future, I may consider an AMD GPU but I cannot in my right mind buy an AMD Bulldozer cpu.

Alright, I'll make sure to check that out in the AMD section whenever it is posted

There's nothing wrong with their GPUs, no need to boycott them just because Bulldozer hasn't lived up to expectations at launch.

first of all thank you for creating this post I find it quite interesting and hopefully ( some miracle a i guess) it would make some sort of a difference.

I dont believe AMD Would Produce a Dud processor and knowingly sell it for a price that doesnt satisfy there band-for-buck principle, especially when u look back at previous CPU's. I Hope that it is infact a bug causing all these performance glitches because I also agree that this doesnt make sense. a Large Company wouldnt be that stupid to release a chip like this and have it become a total flop espcially after what happened with the original Phenom's....that being said, Maybe theyll release Bulldozer II?

Well, since this is a message to AMD thread...

Dearest AMD,

My Athlon 64 X2 6000+ was my first processor, and this Athlon II I have now is my second. I liked them both a lot. I got to build my first computer with an AMD CPU and got to upgrade to a quad-core AMD CPU several months later. I love both processors even though they aren't top of the line.

BUT. I waited through the launch of Intel's Sandy Bridge, through several delays (all of them I was excited about before I knew it was going to be a delay), all the way to the day the NDA was released. All I can ask is what everyone else is asking: "Really, AMD?"

Until you can release something that doesn't destroy why I waited for about a year (the time I found out about Bulldozer until now), then I'm going Intel. Goodbye.

Sincerely,
The Batgirl

P.S. I'll still cheer you on, but get your crap together.

Thread Starter
I was really ready to get one, but I'm just going to wait. Maybe not for the hotfixes, but for something that can compete with the 2600K. I really don't see the point in the 8150 at the price it's at now. I'm really hoping it's all true, and there is a big bug with corrupted data entering the L1 cache and the chip's reported power draw/temperature drops significantly with new software.

Even then though, the price to take one home is just insulting or even greedy. I don't care whether it has 8 cores or not. Boasting about my octo-core means nothing if I go home later to a CPU that only matches up to the 2500k. Same goes for OC'ing. I wont stupidly buy a processor that can easily hit the 5Ghz mark if an older, cheaper product like the 1100T smokes it in performance (Hopefully that's just "the bug"). If they fix it AND if the price drops to about 240 I'll pull the trigger.

Except they didn't bring "bang for the buck" with bulldozer... i rather grab a cheaper, more efficient 2500k...
