The "Message to AMD" Thread - Page 6

Dear AMD, as a loyal buyer since the 386 days, including first generation Athlon-700, Durons, s939, AM2 and AM3, please, please return to the old days. Stop skimping on chip design, go back to the hand crafted precision of the old days. The Bulldozer should have crushed the 2500k, the design is full of amazing ideas, but the management's insistence on cheaping out with the design team has ruined that.
I shall be seriously considering buying Intel, despite their insanely high prices outside the continental USA.

Are they really that bad outside the US? I bought my 2600k (new) for the price AMD is selling the 8150 ($280) and the 2500k can be had for $180.

dear AMD, nice ideas crafted in this fine future looking cpu, but optimized windows programs, and other programs should have been released first. the flag ship should have been the 4170 seeing as how it almost competes with the 8150. please bring it up to par
this should have smashed a 2600k intel product back to where it came from sand.
bulldozer was a cool name if the guy driving it has a slegde hammer. I am not totally dissapointed as it is completely new but i expected some better comp than this.

Yes. 2500k is $270 here, and a decent board is similar money (yes, cheaper ones are available, but this is OCN for heaven's sake.).
Sure an FX8150 is $300, and a sabretooth 990 board is $250. But decent Intel boards are heading for $300 plus as well.

I would like to share this post with you guys.

This shows that there is something seriously wrong software wise with Bulldozer, and its actually a great chip once you break it down to 4 cores / 4 modules.

I'm sorry, but doesn't breaking down an already pricey 8-core chip and turning it into a 4-core / 4 module chip defeat a significant amount of purpose behind owning an 8-core chip? Wouldn't this also completely destroy multi-threaded performance--something Bulldozer is already only accomplishing at a subpar level?

Not entirely sure honestly. It would hurt the performance on things that can actually utilize the "module" approach, sure. However since it does bring up huge IPC gains....it might be worthwhile to do it. It's showing some promise at the very least.

I think I'm going to PM a few members here that have one, and see if they can recreate it.
