Hi! Need Help OC'ing My Q6600

Thread Starter
Hello i am new here, nice 2 meet u all

So.. i got a

Q6600 G0

Asus P5E3

2X2GB OCZ Reaper 1600 7-7-7-24

Water Cooled Swfitech Apogee GT

so the settings are now FSB 400
Ram Speed 1136@ 7-7-7-24
CPU @ 2556Mhz
Bus Speed 284 (X 9)
all voltages are on auto..

so.. how far can i go?
with my cpu
and ram?

and when and how much should i change the voltages?

(btw im thinking about buying another set of 2XGB reaper 1600 and switch to Win7 64Bit Finally)

i'm thinking about ocking to 3.6Ghz and the ram will stay on 1600Mhz and the bus and fsb on 400 but if i can boost the ram also it will be nice

and i must tell you i had Striker 2 Formula before i had the P5E3 and everytime i tried to oc (even to 2.66) the computer just froze on start up
so i'm alittle bit afraid of oc'ing

and the mb got fried twice so i asked them to give me another mb instead and they gave me a P5E3

i would really appreciate your help thanks, alot guys

I remember I had a Q6600 that I took up to 4.2 with a modified chilltec.

Anyway, I would say don't go over 1.5v. Personally, I recall I didn't went higher than 1.49v

Whats your current VTT, VPL, and other BIOS voltages set to?

Here's one you could try. 8 x 460 1.440 in CPU-Z but it's like 1.47 in my BIOS. You could try 9 x 400 or 8 x 450 for 3.6 and see how it goes. I use 1.36 on my north bridge for this fsb. Make sure your north bridge stays cool.

Don't worry about your RAM for now. One thing at a time so the process doesn't have you troubleshooting too many things at once. First get the cpu oc stable and after, work on the RAM. Use the Memory dividers to keep the RAM as-close-to or even a tiny bit below stock speed while you work on the cpu overclock.

Set the vcore, VTT, MCH/North Bridge and RAM voltages manually.

Also, please follow this link and fill in your system specs as accurately as you can. It'll make it easier for people who want to help you when they can see your rig at a glance instead of having to read down the entire length of the posts. Thank you.

I use 9x 400 and require 1.48v for 3.6ghz, try to stay under 1.55v on the cpu. You should be able to overclock more as long as the heat is controlled.

I recommend you to read through this article, which covers nicely the Core2Quad overclocking topic.

No problem with that, that topic is indeed very helpful.

MCH and ICH depend on the Mobo you're using, they are northbridge voltages.

CPU Voltage <-- Try 1.45 in your BIOS, for now.
CPU PLL Voltage <-- Try 1.50 or 1.57 here, for now. (Do Not go over 1.57 for now)
FSB Terminal Voltage <-- Try 1.38 here, for now
Dram <-- Manually set your RAM's specified voltage here.
NB <-- Try 1.38 here for starters.
SB <-- Whatever your BIOS shows here, set it manually.
ICH I/O……………….....1.570V <-- Set manually to what your BIOS shows
ICH Core…………...……1.200V <-- Set manually to what your BIOS shows
Clock Over Charging
Load Line Calibration
CPU GTL Reference * Leave Refs alone for now--"AUTO"
NB GTL Reference *
CPU Spread Spectrum <-- Disable this
PCI-E SPread Spectrum

Set the fsb to 400 and the cpu multi to 9 for 3.6 GHz. Don't forget to set your RAM speed, voltage and timings manually also.

See if it boots. Watch what happens. If it fails to fully boot into Windows, pay close attention to how it fails--that can tell you a lot about what needs to be tweaked.
