What's the point of career in Forza 4?

I am genuinely confused by this. If every car is available to drive from the beginning of the game, what is the point of career mode? See, in Gran Turismo 5, I had to get all the way through career mode to become a baller and be able to drive every car I want to. If you don't pay for them, you can't drive them (arcade mode only had very few cars). Is the career mode just very insignificant in Forza or am I missing something?

Available if you can afford.
2 mil credits seems to take a bit of effort to achieve for something like the LMP cars.

True you can drive anything stock for online or rivals, etc but usually doesn't seem to fare as well as if you had your own, tuned car.

....You have to buy cars in forza 4. If you were high level in 3 you only get a few cars and a small chunk of credits. Most newer cars start at around 35-60k credits then if you jump to super cars you are looking at 250k-2mil. They only thing free that I have been given aside from the usual driver level reward cars is the brand affinity which allows for free performance upgrades which is a godsend for players like me. I don't know how many cars I have bought in the previous versions and modded with all my credits earned. I feel the career mode so far is nice increasing the difficulty of the races and the events limiting you greatly on the cars you can use. This has made the races seem a lot more fun and have kept me interested in the actual career mode. Hated and loved using r3 rated cars I had tuned for races that all the cars were stupid low rating which made a lot of races boring in the last versions.

So are there cars that can only be driven in career mode or are all of the cars in the game available to drive in free mode? If the latter is the case, then does that mean the central benefit of career mode is that you can upgrade a car that you would drive stock in free mode?
