First Intel build few 2500k build questions

Hey guys so I was going to wait till next month to order my parts but why wait right? This will be my first Intel build so I'm pretty exited.

Questions: What type of Ram do Intel builds like? Higher speeds? lower/tight timings? Will the z68 motherboards have support for Ivy Bridge? And lastly what are the max temps/voltage I should push my CPU to when overclocking?

Build so far.

i5 2500k : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157271

Edit: Decided to go with SLI GTX 560 Ti's 2Gb models (any waterblocks for these?): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130683

No Ram/PSU decided.

Besides my questions any advice you guys can give me on improving the build? Would like to order by Friday thanks!

I would say a 1600corsair vengence or g skill ripjaws.
I'm pretty sure z68 has ivy-bridge support.
Don't know muh about overclocking, so can't help you.
I would say a Corsair TX650 V2 if you don't plan to SLI, a TX850 if you do.

both the p67 and z68 boards will support ivy bridge. if overclocking, dont fill all your ram slots. 2 4gb sticks of veangence are popular. looks goods so far. look in the PSU section for the list of recommended PSUs

OCing- no more than 1.6 vcore if temps allow(i wouldnt go above 1.5 for everyday use) and keep it under 80 while prime95ing

Thanks for the quick response! I do plan to SLI in late November and add the RX240 watercooling kit at the same time. Would the TX850 be enough for that along with the overclocks (ram, cpu, gpu)?

I was actually looking at the Corsair Vengeance earlier but noticed there's a difference between the 4GB set and the 8GB set " Only qualified 1.5V XMP RAM on Intel Core i3/i5/i7" What does that mean? I would like 8GB's of ram that's why I ask.

8GB : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233147

4GB : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145348

I think that the TX850 should be plenty. However, I'm not sure how much overclocking takes, but if your really concerned you could probably up it to 950

" Only qualified 1.5V XMP RAM on Intel Core i3/i5/i7" What does that mean? I would like 8GB's of ram that's why I ask.
I think that this is what it means if you don't try overclocking anything, by default it will use 1.5v. I'm not sure, that's what I think.

it is saying that it is the only qualified 1.5 volt ram for the SB series, but from what ive read this is BS. up to 1.65 is ok for ram, according to phaedrus PSU calc(look at attachment)... and thats with everything OCed

Thanks for all your help you two! So It should be ok to go with the 8GB set and bump up voltage to 1.65 if required with no problems? Thanks for the attachment Tipless I think I'll go with the either the X750 or the HX850 since it's around the same price.

HX850 is a fantastic power supply with nice headroom for upgrades/OCing

Enjoy your new rig

****EDIT - are you definitely going for a water cooling setup? note that if you plan to use a good air cooler for a temp period such as the CM Hyper 212+ (awesome cooler) the Vengeance RAM heatsinks are massive. If you use all DIMM slots, I doubt you will use/need to use all DIMM slots but if you do an you use an air cooler the G-skills have slightly smaller (but still big) heatsinks. Makes it much easier to work with.

But either way you can get them both to work, just a heads up. Enjoy.
