First Intel build few 2500k build questions - Page 2

SLI 560 and overclocked cpu should need no more than a quality 750w. For intel sandy bridge cpus, higher speed ram makes more of a difference but you won't notice it in gaming. RX 240 might not be enough for SLI 560 TI and oc'ed 2500k. Should get the RX360 for the ultimate coolness

Good luck and have fun building your rig thumb.gif

p.s. running your ram at 1.65v is the upper limit and it might degrade the life of your cpu. Get one of those 1.5v kits

I will go with the HX850 then for the headroom, seems to be a solid power supply too. Originally I wasn't going to water cool because I was scared but I love messing with my PC and this is something I have always wanted to do. Thanks for the heads up though! I'll be going with the 8GB set so hopefully I don't run into any issues while parts get here.

What type of Ram do Intel builds like? Higher speeds? lower/tight timings?
1600 with tighter timings, dont buy a 2000 kit like i did, look for lower voltages. Corsair, or Gskill.

Will the z68 motherboards have support for Ivy Bridge? And lastly what are the max temps/voltage I should push my CPU to when overclocking?

Like other have said, p67 and z68 support ivy bridge. Max temps 95, dont go there. Your safe max should be 85. Voltages, dont go above 1.5v for 24/7

PSU should be a corsair or Antec, they make the best Power Supplies, dont skimp on quality here. Motherboard looks good. Do you have an SSD in mind? get the Crucial M4, and not a Sandforce.

the vengeance ram should have been 1.5... here is a good kit:

If I overclock the ram will 1.5v be enough? I don't really mind slowly killing my ram since it's so cheap but I do want to take care of the CPU tongue.gif

Also thanks for the tip on the rad! I'll pick that up instead, any recommendation on some quiet fans for it?

So if my max temps are in the low 80's I should be fine correct? 1.5v is the max I should push it for 24/7 or keep it under 1.5v? Don't want to fry my first chip lol.

up to 1.5 for daily use vcore as long as yo stay under 80-85 degrees... and for ram there are no real world gains... from what ive read, all vengeance ram even though its cas 9 itll run fine on cas 8 at stock volts. if you want mhz here ya go:

You've been a great help Tipless, I think I got my build pretty much figured out now so I'll just go ahead and order everything tomorrow morning. This was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be tongue.gif
