Right so itunes now picks up my phone and continues to install ios5, 10 min later it gaves me an error saying phone cannot be restored,

The phone is now constantly showing the recovery mode screen and every time i connect it to itunes it tries to recover it gives me error 1604.

SO i too now have an expensive paper weight.

(typical as i was arguing in favour of the iphone just yesterday)

So yeah any help is appreciated
Download TinyUmbrella. Choose your device in the left side of the window and choose "exit recovery mode". That should work.

Here's what you could try to do and things you should know.
If it can boot up its not bricked.
Like the rest said you might want to DFU restore.
Before that download tiny umbrella and make sure on the advanced tab cydia is NOT set as your host file.
Then restore. Its probably not this but keep trying.
