Need upgrade advice

Thread Starter
Ok, so the plan I've had for the last few months was to wait for Bulldozer to come out, sell off my rig, and build a whole new one. After spending hours reading reviews, comments, etc I've decided it would be better to just upgrade to a 1090T/1100T and wait for PD/SB-E/IB whenever those are released. Problem is, I don't know if my boards 4+1 phase design will be able to take an x6 overclocked to ~4+GHz.

Options? Opinions?

price to performance, you mite as well just go for an x4 955-980. or just pawn the cpu and board and grab a 2500k+mobo combo. the pII x4s yield the same performance as the x6s and you can get a 955 for $120 from newegg rite now.

as far as the vrm 4+1 issues, im only aware of that with the MSI boards.

I searched up this thread.

a) It should be fine as long as you watch your temps
-or-
b) Look for a better board so you don't burn up the chip

My advice? Pay the premium for a better board. I've never been mad at spending more money for piece of mind and not being without a working system if something breaks down

Well I've actually been running my x3 at 1.55v for about a year now. Is it just the voltage that matters or is it the watts that the chip draws? I'm also wondering if my DDR2 RAM is a limiting factor.
