Help Needed: 6870 Cooling

Thread Starter
I have a XFX 6870 and currently it runs a bit hotter then i would like it too. I used msi afterburner to set the fan speed where i like it but unfortunently whenever i turn off afterburner, the settings go back to default are there any other programs i can use that will make the settings stay?

You could use driver software to set the fan speed to a fixed percent. Right click desktop > AMD Vision Engine Control > Performance > AMD Overdrive. Select "Enable manual fan control" and set it to your desired speed. I would recommend leaving it auto though unless it starts going 85C when gaming.

Mine is OC and it gets 85 sometime 87 ?

Is that even good? Because I readed that 100c would kill it and if it would be 90c then you should be really carefull.

87C is not that bad, GPU's can handle high temperatures. Though above 90C, I'd start looking for some extra fans or better case airflow. And I believe the thermal shutoff for a 6870 is 105C but even then I do not recommend letting the card reach that temperature as it can degrade the life of the card.

OP what are your temps?
Yes, what are your ambient, internal, CPU, and GPU temperatures?

I use MSI Afterburner, I just leave it on all the time. I set the GPU fans to 20°-20%, 65°-60%, and 70°-100%.

I set up my fans so that my internal rises 5°C maximum. Six intake(two front, two top, and two side) with one exhaust in the back.
