So I was finally able to spend a good amount of time in Dungeon Defenders last night with a friend and I have to say that its a really good game. There are a lot of similarities to "Orcs Must Die!" specifically the type of enemies and the whole protect the rift/ crystal deal. DD just feels like it has a lot more to offer than Orcs with the leveling system, random loot, pets and the multiplayer just really makes this game great.

If you look at it from a single player experience Orcs is alot better, it has better traps than any one of the characters from DD, the art style is a lot better (imo), and the humor/ voice acting are better than a bunch of mute midget looking kids(?). I had a horrible time in DD playing solo, especially at a low level when your traps aren't able to hold off even a couple of waves and your too weak to even take out an orc.

so far the only solid low level player to me is the melee knight...couple barricades, bump up your attack and swing away... then i tried the hunter and died horribly...darn traps.

definitely like the knight best, though trying to level him and the mage at the same time.. small exploit when you can do any level over and over again and save up tons of mana.. good thing i have a killer sword ive upgraded..

oh i dont really suggest that...when low level dont bother leveling up your armor or weapons..you get new ones easily enough..

btw do you guys know anything on getting more points a game? i have no idea how they work... on the first level i have some 3000 on easy then i look at the top player who is level 70 and they got over 2 million or something.. ?!?!?

i tried out the demo for Blocks That Matter, even though it was cute and a new take on puzzles i wasnt 100% interested in it. i do agree with TFL Replica on putting braid and And Yet It Moves ahead of it..

ill have to look up BEEP though, curious.

oh also on Indievania, an interesting block tactical shooter game is, "Inside a Star Filled Sky" simple sentance about it, block shooting things while going waaay deeper than inception ever could. the video on Indievania will show you exactly what im talking about. may buy that one once ive put more time in all my other games

edit: also...new avatar :3 so far i like it hehe

The huntress is no good solo, you'll even get over run at high levels due to traps taking so long to rearm if you're not on a team. Even with a team I feel pretty useless with her, maybe it changes when you've hit lvl 10+. Shame too I want to use the portal gun already. I have a lvl 21 monk now, really nice debuffs/ DoT. As for the points I have no clue, maybe you get them by playing in ranked matches? Also saw the top player's score up there since day one so theres something fishy about it. Also they let you do the levels more than once so you can play them on another difficulty.

I'm setting dungeon defenders aside for now to give more attention to other games on my list. It feels too unpolished, grind-ey and since I play it solo, lifeless.

problem is even with the portal gun you need another person to shoot things, or have a tower with good range on the other end..

very curious about the monk, but being solo i dont want healing spells.
yeah ive already played the well a few times with one character to build up the mana bank a bit and figure out my player..

oh well

very grind-ey.....very

You guys are playing a multiplayer game solo, so of course you're not going to enjoy it . like I said Orcs is a LOT better solo than this game since you're not depending on anyone. Monk isn't strictly a healer, I haven't personally been on a map where healing people was necessary but I didn't get my AoE heal until my lvl was in the 'teens. Other than that he has one Point blank AoE heal and everything else buffs you, or debuffs/ damages enemies. Hes great for thinning out crowds and slowing down the stronger enemies (ogres/ bosses). You normally don't leave anyone alive with a snare/ electric bubble unless they're resistant to it. But he really is a team player, you need to build your bubbles on teammate towers to get the most out of them. I'd suggest squire or apprentice for solo since they seem to be pretty capable by themselves and either one teamed with a monk can get some work done.

Also, it felt grindy to me when I was playing solo first day too but as soon as I was able to get my friend in and the levels were beatable you focus more on the random loot/ next stage since you start leveling like crazy. The only problem we're having now is since the stages are getting harder we're letting randoms join our game to fill in two slots and most just don't talk or care to strategize. They pick a door and build and use up as much def points as they can, and since the team share those points we get into intense games where we're getting over run by three+ doors and can't rebuild because as fast as the enemy takes out our towers a "teammate" builds one of his halfway across the map .

very true and i completely agree that playing this game solo is wrong, but when you're stuck you're kinda stuck. i bet having a mic is a huge boon as always with this game.

i do want to get online but internet is so dodgy out here not sure how well i'll manage it.

thanks for the info on the Monk, ill stick with the first 2 then lol

need to continue on Orcs must Die and my other games..falling behind
