For AutoCAD I5 or I7?

Thread Starter
So, I was gathering ingredients for my new gaming rig and a funny thing happened, I became a Engineering Student. I will be using Auto-CAD and other programs with rendering and the works, with the occasional game. I know that the I5 would be the best CPU for gaming, but I'm just wondering if the hyper-threading of the I7 would be better for rendering and 3D modeling? I've never done any research on the I7 because of the overwhelming evidence for the I5 & gaming. Thanks guys!

Well,

Autocad is a multithreaded application, so yes, I would imagine a sizable bump in performance over the i5

i think i5 will be fine. Rendering uses full threads though, decide if a 15% performance boost(at max) is worth the extra $100

panning around a complex 3d house uses 8-12% gpu of my gtx 470 for reference.

So where do you find the 15% max statement, has it been documented or benched? I can't find any

15.5% slower, roody poo

we are talking about rendering in this thread

and you can subtract 3.03% if you want for the 3.4ghz vs 3.3ghz difference

Take that i7, overclock it, and put use it for AutoCAD, you're going to see a chunk of difference between the i7 and i5.

I don't have any AutoCAD benches, but Hyper-Threading netted me a 41% boost in performance in rendering with Blender:

Blender would be a better idea of the increae in performance.

BTW missingno if you're going to link a benchmark for autocad, link the right one and not a 3ds benchmark which runs more off your GPU if I remember rightly.

they turned off hardware acceleration. Do you even have 3d studio?

Nope, what's your point? You've linked a benchmark for a different application.

EDIT - Wait, why am I arguing with someone who has a post count of 35?
