Crossfire issues?

Hi all,

I have a Vision Tech. 5870 & a Asus 5870, I just installed the Asus 5870 yesterday and configured the Crossfire option.

GPUZ is showing both cards as well as Catalyst Control Center, however I can only adjust the clocks and fan speed for the Vision Tech.

When I choose the Asus page, I am not able to change clocks or fan speed, the fan speed on the Asus does however randomly increase and decrease.

It seems to me, as something might not be right. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here is a screenshot showing CCC, and GPUZ...

Did you uninstall Catalyst driver prior to Asus 5870?

1. Disable onboard video.

2. Uninstall Catalyst package driver (with both cards in and crossfire bridge on). Remove all Afterburner, Trixx or Asus Smart Doctor.

3. Clean it with Atiman Uninstaller v.6.0.0.msi. Download LINK

(Run it with administrator privilege. Some antivirus software will give a false positive. Let it restarts itself to complete the uninstallation).

4. Install Catalyst 11.9 + Catalyst 11.9 CAP 1

Try again.

Edit:

I see both cards have identical VBIOS version, are they stock or did you flash one of them?

OK try each card on its own. Remove one card then swap with another card. Shutdown while doing this. See how it goes.

I have both bridges on, I uninstalled and tried both cards on thier own and they both work fine.

The issue is, that I can control the fan on the Asus when the card is in by itself but when both cards are in I can only control the fan on the Visiontech.

This is strange....

1. You only need one bridge. No added benefit with two.

2. Try to remember, did you edit anything in registry or configuration file? Such as edit the 2D clock in multi screens setup to maintain stability.

Could be compatibility issue being one is 2GB Eyefinity6 and 1 reference 1GB.

Next thing I would do is to roll back to each previous driver and only udpate the CAP to latest Catalyst 11.9 CAP1, if you didn't edit anything. If you did change something but couldn't remember, to get it solved is by fresh OS re-install.

Edit:

Try download MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 8 and see if you can set custom fan profile for both cards.

I don't see in MSI Afterburner where I have the option to switch between the two cards?

Click on "setting" > Enable User Fan Profile

Edit:

Do not use Overdrive to control fan speed to interfer with Afterburner.

You don't have to set fan profile for each card. You can use one setting for core/memory/voltage and fan profile > click on Sync for all cards > apply > apply overclocking at system startup > done.
