::Casual RPG::
Torchlight - Like Diablo with a bit less depth and great-looking Warcraft graphics style - fun game, but not one you'll likely be playing months from now.

::Immersive RPG::
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion - Hundreds of mods available.
Fallout 3
The Witcher Enhanced Edition Director's Cut

::Action Adventure::
Bioshock 1/2 - Some of the best atmosphere and art direction I've ever seen in a video game.
Mass Effect 2 - Not played this one myself, but I've heard great things about it and have been on the verge of buying it several times.

Left 4 Dead 2 - Yeah, you can end up playing with some knuckleheads, but you can bail on the jerks. Aside from that, it's a really atmospheric blast fest with a lot of fun weapons and challenging scenarios.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Another one I've not played myself (FPS games aren't my first choice), but I have several friends who play it and love it.

The nice part is that you could actually get two games for $30 from this list, depending on which ones you select.
