Brief Mionix Zibal 60 Review

Thread Starter
Just got my Mionix Zibal 60 in the mail yesterday and have been at it all night so I'm here to let you guys know how it is. I've never written a review before so feel free to give me some critical feedback.

I'll start out by saying that when I say I don't necessarily "like" something, it's probably not bad at all but I'm using top of the line keyboards as a reference frame, so I'm saying it's not quite as good as the others. Additionally, it is my opinion, something I may not like you might.

Price: About $165 after tax+shipping from Newegg. Owch.

Initial Build Quality: Moderate weight for a mechanical keyboard, big thick cord, overall pretty solid.

Look: It's your pretty standard keyboard but it is nice and sleek and does not seem to get dirty easily. I'm generally not a fan of big font / key images but the letters/images are pretty good looking in this case (round, not blaring). The layout is nice and standard.

Backlighting:This is the first mech keyboard I've seen with a green backlighting and I must say I love the color selection. It has a few settings, off, dim, and slightly brighter (doesn't get too bright), and you can set it to WASD or full keyboard which I suppose is nice. On the other hand, all of the keycaps with 2 characters (IE: 8 with *, F1 with mute), only one of the characters gets illuminated which isn't too aesthetically pleasing, especially when half of the other character is illuminated.

Feel: While I like the fact that this keyboard is not glossy like the Blackwidow for example, the keys have a wierd grippy feel to them. If I run my finger over a key it doesn't glide but makes a gripped squeaky sort of noise. This feeling isn't particularly nice. It comes with a wrist rest but honestly it is a piece of crap. The wrist rest has a solid, not comfortable desk feel to it and it's not even big enough for my entire wrists. Even with it on my actual wrists are still on my desk while the bottom of my palms are on the wrist rest.

Cherry MX Black Keys: I guess this is just a review of the switch in general. At first I didn't like them really at all without the tactile switch, but they're quickly growing on me and I love the fact that they are quiet. I feel like I can be subtle with my typing. I would, however, prefer the tactile switches if I were writing a long paper for example. Sidenote: MY BACKSPACE KEY HAS A HIGH-PITCHED SQUEAK (if I don't press down hard enough to bottom-out) WHICH IS EXTREMELY F****** ANNOYING... Hopefully this is just my keyboard.

Other thoughts: Media keys are great, audio plugs and addition usb plug is great, lack of macro keys is pretty disappointing for a high end gaming-specific keboard.

Overall: For $150 ($165 after fees), go with something else. I bought this mainly for the green-backlighting, media keys, and I wanted to test out cherry mx-blacks. I think it will serve as a good keyboard for my SC2 playing but for everything else I'd go for a different keyboard. And holy s***, can someone please make my backspace stop squeaking? Do you guys think it is enough of a reason to RMA?

Oh and sorry for no pictures, my only camera is an iphone 3.

Squeaky keys can sometimes happen. Since it's the backspace key I'd say check the stabilizer first, and if that's not the issue you can lubricate the switch itself.

Follow this guide here to pull the keys and lubricate the stabilizers.

In fact I have a tube of white lithium grease in front of me because I'm adding Double Shot keys to my Filco Camo version.
