None of this speculation surrounding gaming is really going to matter until the next gen of consoles comes out.
between the PS4 and the Xbox...whatever, one of them is going to choose Intel and the other will use AMD, or a custom CPU. These CPU's will ABSOLUTELY be more than quad core. When developers start using heavily multithreaded instructions, the CPU's will then start to come into their own, be it AMD or Intel.
Unless of course both companies start using some custom APU, which could make things interesting.
Speaking of which, and showings from BD vs GTA4? GTA4 was so CPU bound I wonder if it could take any advantage from BD...

This review with the ASRock board shows BD ahead of the 2600k in ALL games...Also in 3dmark11....

Techspot review used ASRock board. Looks like i5 2500 and i7 2600 is better overall than FX-8150

I understand that to test the performance of the cpu they scale back the resolution. But the cpu is just one part of the system, unless it a apu, the cpu depend on a good gpu, good ram, and a well made board to tie it all together.

You still need a good power supply for clean power and good hard drives to round out the performance of the total system.

The Bulldozer is a part of the scorpius platform, meaning you need a 900 series mother board ie Arock fatality 1 board, ie Bulldozer processor (because of it higher memory support 1866 ddr3), and a hd radeon 6000 series graphics card ie hd 6970. That is a total Scorpius platform, so why if your reviewing would you not also show how the total system does compared to say a 2600 intel based system most of those system use a intel chipset and alot of the reviews I have seen for Intel system always have the Intel cpu, X58 chipset or better , then either a nvidia or ati graphics alot of time it nvidia ,then they would usually have the highest ram recommend for that system.

I would love to see two system with compared head to head like the 8150 vs say 2600 with the both ATI and nvidia cards with the fastest ram possible in each board and at the higher resolution 1900*1200 and the 2560 res just to see if the new 990fx with it better pci expres lane and the higher memory that bulldozer uses along with the higher res gives a true indication of how it stack up for a gaming machine.

I just seeing alot of review and alot of the crosshair and the other using gigabyte and asrock ,and msi boards show different in there gaming benchmarks even using the same games and the same res. If it was such a bad chip then it should be bad on everyone benchmarks that they are running.

More good info for B Negative since he is short on knowledge.

Finally, when it came time to play games the FX range was really no better than the Phenom II.

We won't deny it, we really were hoping for a lot more from Bulldozer and AMD's eight-core processors. It's disappointing to find these newly launched processors do little to improve AMD’s situation. The FX processors come short of competing hand to hand with the now 9-months old Sandy Bridge processors, and in certain instances surpass their own Phenom II range.

This last part, not competing with a Phenom II is ridiculous.

Enough of this, go buy your Bulldozer - I do not care. We need people like you to keep AMD and its badly designed chips around.

Enjoy!

Now we have an 8 core chip that actually competes with the 4 core version and it's a "failure".

Hypocrites, much?

The 8150 is meant to compete with the 2500k and it does so WITH an "equal" price point.

Less QQ and more pew pew IMHO.
people seem to forget this. $200 core 2 duos were killing the $850 core 2 quad in gaming at release. in modern games? the core 2 quad will get double the fps.
