[MD] Researchers Find Possible Cure for Peanut Allergies - Page 4

Hopefully they find a cure for gluten and milk allergies too. frown.gif

It's amazing that nearly 70% of the world's population is lactose intolerant, yet people still consume the stuff (even without taking enzyme supplements). I'm dairy intolerant, so milk in general isn't good for me (closes up my throat).

Gluten is starting to become more and more well known, you'll see packages now that state if the ingredients contain wheat or gluten. And nearly 78 million Americans have some type of gluten intolerance, of which less than 10% know they are allergic.

It sickens me that we're consuming so much processed stuff over the years that eventually our bodies are going to retaliate.

I have many allergies (which I didn't know about until I was 20), and I am glad there is research being done. Allergies suck.

I read somewhere that the people who are lactose tolerant over the age of 2 years old aren't normal.

Are allergies genetic? If so, more and more surviving allergic people pass it on over time. If more people survive over time, it gets passed on to a higher percentage of the population. I'm talking a long time, but an increase still. Its not like other genetic diseases where the disease significantly alters your lifestyle. Of course if its not genetic then my whole post is invalid Im too lazy right now to check though.

Hasn't it been shown in numerous studies that living overly hygienic childhood makes you more prone to develop allergies?

In laymans terms, when the immune system doesn't have much to do and doesn't get a proper "training" with bacterial/viral threats when you are a child, it's more prone to overreact to something that it shouldn't.

Not sure to be honest, I would imagine the traits would be but perhaps the specific allergy wouldn't. That's a relevant question perhaps someone who knows more can enlighten us.
