Just an idea, I think you can find a good deal on eBay 5770 for $40-50. It will give you the performance of a 5870. Coming from a crossfire user, I can assure you that AMD drivers have improved starting from Catalyst 11.xx. If you feel the urge to upgrade or you think 2x 5770 doesn't meet your requirement, then sell it.

I have both setups AMD & Nvidia. I want to say this to make it remotely sound like a fanboy.

There is a pretty substantial difference. IMO the hd6870 would be the least powerful single GPU solution from AMD I would run. Even then I'd be looking at overclocking the card to try to squeeze out a few more FPS.

Yeah, that works too. If you can find one cheap enough, even 60-70, it would still be good performance/dollar.

Only thing I warn with buying used is if you have an issue, and need to RMA, you're just going to need to buy a new card.

I bought a used gtx470 to use with SLI with a new one I purchased. Thanks to an unfortunate incident with a penny, I am down to 1 gtx470 for BF3, with no way to RMA the broken card. That was just me though, I fried the card, if not for that incident I probably wouldn't even mention warranty issues when buying a used card to somebody. Honestly I'm not even sure it would have mattered if I had bought it new, they could have refused the RMA, so it's probably a moot point.

Grab a 6850. It will be worth the price difference and it won't be too bad if you really shop around and don't buy the first card you see.

EDIT:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161384

There you go, $144.99 and a rebate on top of it.

Nevermind, looks like you got it sorted.

If the 6770 is your upgrade option.. don't. Get another 5770, they CF very well. Usually as good as one 5850.. sometimes nearly doubling a single 5770

http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...0-review-test/

EDIT: CF 5770 can pull off 6870's numbers. However you need to think about app support for CF... GTA IV doesn't like CF, however, a lot of games use it well.
