Before I help you to change voltages, I would like to know your stock voltages.

please run gpu shark (or something similiar)
and tell me (or upload a screenshot) of all your voltages (VDDC) and gpu MHz. i'm mainly interested in your voltage at 50MHz, 405MHz, and at max.

It happens in desktop, in Safe Mode, even when I was reinstalling Windows 7. Surely the voltage mods need to be made in the BIOS of the GPU since I even get problems in Safe Mode etc?

I actually only started getting the problems after two weeks since building my new rig. I cannot be dealing with changing the mobo and rebuilding Windows to get this card working when its just pot luck whether it works or not. It's crazy how so many people are having these problems and there has been no solution for 2 years!

If indeed it is the compatibility issue, it boils down to your specific combination of hardware. Unfortunately, as you already are aware, the only tangible fixes are to swap hardware - whether if it's the GPU, motherboard, and/or power supply. It is quite possible that if you RMA your GPU, you may get one that works with your setup.

Considering you have done just about everything else already, the choice is up to you. I understand your frustrations and reluctance to take a gamble, so if you really don't want to risk it, I would say return your card for an AMD GPU, whick seems to not have any of the same compatibility issues to note. An HD6970, for example, competes very well with a GTX 580 while saving you some money in the end.

Hopefully the 700 series from Nvidia will do better and resolve these issues once and for all. redface.gif

EDIT:

Something just dawned on me. You said you were using a Displayport to hook up your monitor right? Have you tried just using a straight DVI or VGA cable instead?

Thanks for the reply Ash!

I was actually in the market for the MSI 6970 Lightning and when I went to order I realised the card is completely out of stock in both the UK and Germany. No other 6970 appeals to me.

I may get my GTX 580 back from my cousin and try the following potential solution:

It would be great if someone else with the same problem try the above solution as I am not back home until the weekend.

Thanks.
