Need a new CPU. Help wanted - Page 4

post #31 of 39
yeah nice summary

prehaps im stuck in the "it'll do" boat, i didnt go out and buy 2x 5870's mind and when i bought my rig i basically got my 5870 "free" because of the price diffrence between this and the i7 920 (i think it was around £700 for mobo i7 920 and ram)

prehaps i should have waited a couple of months (ddr3 went through the floor and mobo+cpu dropped quite a bit aswell) however i dont not regret my purchase its good enough for my needs. i bought the second 5870 about 9 months after my first, it was an impulse buy lol but it turns out id need it to run bf3 @1680x1050 with most of the eyecyndy turned on

back on topic:

ill still stand by my original statement that an OC'd x6 wont bottleneck his gpu's. if it does it will be extremly marginal at best like in my experience

i still got my doubts on that psu tho, i forgot he wanted to OC them aswell. its scary having a psu go bang on you lol, mine looked like lightning coming out of the case lmao

Yeah 1 DVD drive.

So I checked Azerty and here are the results

XFX XXX PSU = Cheaper
Motherboard = much more expensive
CPU = Cheaper
GPU = same

Not a massive improvement over Alternate, not like i have to spent 100 euros less :/

Power supply is plenty, even with a high overclock.

You do realize games only use 4 cores.... there will not be a difference between an x4 and x6 for gaming

so you are buying the whole system ?

if so then i appologise to anyone who i may have offended.

it may be better if you went with an intel setup. you could well get more bang for buck with one of the new i5's. have you looked ?

x6 shouldn't bottleneck the 6870s.

and yes someone mention go with x4 955 BE and OC it. It will save you $ and serve you better, you won't need the extra 2 cores on a x6 for gaming.

@OP have you thought about an aftermarket CPU cooler yet? You will more than likely need to get one if you want to keep the temps down and quiet. The AMD Stock HS&F get really loud... sounds like a lawnmower....

Big update guys!!!!, Really happy

So I ask my mom about this pc related stuff and that I would like to have a new CPU. See would let me buy it if I stop upgrading my pc for some time because of school, driversessions etc ( I have to pay 1700 euros in a year when im 18 o_o). So yeah, The parts will be!

1x Aerocool Shark Fan 12cm Blue Edition
2x Aerocool Shark Fan 14cm Blue Edition
Sharkoon Dual CCFL Caselight
XFX HD6870 Dual Fan
XFX 650W XXX Edition
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
AMD Phenom II X4 955

Really happy , I think this is a really good choice that will allow me to use for like 1 year?, Good pick also? I dont want to pay more. atm its 500 euros. I am not going to buy another 4gb I think...
