My bro plays predominantly LoL and maybe a little SWTOR or TSW when they come out, but nothing too serious (predominantly facebook, LoL, google and MS word).
The Rosewill green series and rosewill hive series are very good quality lines. The older rosewill units are of lesser quality.

Better chipset, free shipping and a 10$mir.

Just to reinforce, yes, the 530W RoseWill green is a very well made PSU. I would take it over a Corsair Builder CX500 personally.

-------------------------

If your brother plays any games, even older ones, I can not recommend a laptop at this price point. Pretty much all ~$600 and under laptops use really poor performing integrated GPUs that will even make older and less demanding games unplayable.

The recommended GPU for LOL is a NV 8800 or better. That's about 10X more powerful than the integrated you will find in a $600 laptop.

The recommended GPU for SWTOR is a NV 7800 or ATI X1800 or better. These GPUs are about 5X faster than most integrated GPUs in $600 laptops.

So, anyone suggesting a laptop, shame.

-------------------------

Here's another angle to consider this thing from:

Case+Windows: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...409.11-146-061
Save $5 combo special

CPU+PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.743640
This is am i3-2100 minus some clocks and hyper-threading and IMC support for >1066MHZ DDR3. For most peoples purposes, this is more than enough CPU power.

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138332
No need for anything fancy to power the G620, the 65W TDP rating of the CPU is actually very overrated, they usually peak out around 40W or less.

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231253
Right price on a well respected brand. Manually set to run at 1066-7-7-7 instead and this should work great.

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102871
GDDR5 version makes this pretty decent actually.

HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136769
Use $5 off promo code

Optical: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001522

Keyboard/Mouse: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823334009

$598 shipped.

Anything you can afford to squeeze out above that budget should be directed at the GPU. The 5670 included in this build plan is on the bottom end of what will work respectably well. A 6770 or similar would be ideal. A GDDR5 version of a 6670 or 6750 would be a nice alternative if the 6770 is too much.

Having said all that... How do you feel about an AMD build? A triple core Rana build would work out with a nicer MOBO and RAM in the mix for about the same price. Let me know if you'd like an example of such a build.

That supercombo is a terrible allocation of monetary recourses.

Reasons are as follows:

You're paying ~$80 for an X3 with heatsink. You can get a retail box Rana with a higher clock that makes up for the lack of L3 and then some for less money in a 2 item combo or when they have promo code specials.

You're paying $115 for a case and PSU in that combo, there is no reason to spend this much on a budget build. The Rosewill combo I pointed out, or Gamma and a less expensive but good quality PSU in another combo is a better deal, putting the combined price for these 2 items at $90 or less.

When you factor these things in, the $30 super combo savings really don't do anything to fix the problem.

In most cases yes because most modern cards that use DDR3 are going to be bottlenecked by the limited bandwidth. There are however many older cards that used DDR3 that are very powerful, they used wider memory buses though so you just have to pay attention to the resulting memory bandwidth more than the type used to achieve it.

GDDR2/3 isn't a problem if the GPU is not being used for gaming purposes, (like if it's just there as a video decoder, blue-ray playback, etc then it doesn't matter much).. For the purposes you have described for the machine, it would be best not to go below a 5670/6570 DDR5. On the NV side of things, the GT440 is almost barely capable of being a gaming GPU but I would personally not suggest going below a GTS250/450 type of card on the NV side of the fence.

---------------

Scratch my previous build suggestion.... I have a better idea here... This is a better CPU, better GPU, twice as much RAM, and nicer MOBO... The trade off is a slightly less desirable case and dropping down to a 20" 1600x900 monitor. To be honest, most people will get by fine with that resolution, and the GPU performance will be that much better not having to drive as many pixels.

$604 shipped.

If you can afford to take the budget to $660, then you can get both an i3-2100 and an HD6770 into the build above (look for the same RAM combo on the i3), which would really make it an amazing machine.

So right now I have the build down to 700.89 with all the needed stuff (***** IF ANYONE CAN FIND A SUPER CHEAP COPY OF MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010 PLEASE POST*****) which I think I'll be able to get approved by the parental units. I'll update this post in a sec with the specs but its got pretty much all I want/need for the build; a decent case, a good psu, an i3, z68 a 6770 and an ok monitor.

EDIT: OP edited wth current specs.
