Sabertooth or Crosshair V?

Thread Starter
Is the Crosshair really worth the price premium over a Sabertooth? It's about , $40 difference unless I get the newegg open box then it's only a $20 difference.

I'm planning to try and get a good 4.8-5.0 GHz OC. Maybe not on this cooler, but at some point. Will also be pulling as much performance out of my ram as possible.

Anyone have experience with both boards that can shine some light?

Both are very similar, here are your primary differences:

Crosshair:
+X-Fi Audio
+ROG Connect
-1 SATA port
-2 USB 2.0 ports
+2 USB 3.0 ports

Sabertooth:
+1 SATA port
+"TUF" Components (advert gimmick IMO, but, we'll put it as a + lol)
+2 USB 2.0 ports
-2 USB 3.0 Ports

Obviously the biggest difference is the X-Fi audio. I personally really like the Realtek that's on the Sabertooth, it works great and sounds great. No complaints on this end.

Overclockability between the two boards is virtually identical.

Having a dedicated sound card is better than onboard in any situation to lighten up the load of the CPU.

I had mine disabled on my current board and uses my external USB dedicated X-Fi soundcard instead.

If you want to have max performance from your RAM, you should notice that Sabertooth only allows 1866Mhz RAM.

Yes, but if you have Phenom II you will struggle passing over 1600Mhz and for FX is at 1866Mhz.
