Asus P8Z68 not recognizing hard drive, restarting

Hi guys. Sorry if I sound pretty noobish (it's because I am! )

I recently purchased a new motherboard (p8z68) with a new processor and a new videocard. I kept the ram, HDD, and cd drive. When I start up the pc with everything plugged in I get a black screen telling me "no hard disk selected!" very quickly, then the "Starting windows.." screen pops up but after about 5 seconds the monitor goes black and the pc restarts. This keeps repeating. I really have no idea what it could be. To me it seems everything is plugged in securely. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check the BIOS to see if it recognizes the HDD. Also verify SATA settings, such as AHCI. Other things to think of is possible trying a different SATA cable and different port on the mobo.

So what os was on the drive before you upgraded? Depending on what os, will determine the next step. You can put in the windows disk and try doing a repair and it may fix all the issues that way.

Well if you have a iso of the os. You could put it on a flash drive and boot with it. I would go to a friends house and let him make a bootable flash drive for you with your disk.

You should start by adding your rig here.
