Recommendations for my HTPC

Thread Starter
I want to build an HTPC using some of the parts from an old build

Silverstone Matx Case
E7200 Core 2 Duo 2.53Ghz LGA 775 CPU
Seagate 250gb HDD

I want to:
Play DVD and Blu Ray
Music
Stream Netflix and such
Be able to leave it hooked up to the TV and control it wirelessly from my bed for selecting movies and such
Record TV to the HTPC

Is this possible?

If so what parts do I need to add to my build and how would I go about doing this.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Will the E7200 CPU suffice for what I want to do?

And what is a decent video card for this?

Oh yeah, that E7200 is gonna be able to do all of that. I had a Petium D 3.0 that could do all of that minus the bluray, but it could only play 720p files just fine. What type of mobo are you gonna use, also you could get a nice video card with an HDMI port to use it for audio and video. I use this keyboard for the living room and bedroom: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823176018

I haven't decided on a mobo or video card yet. But I can get a Gigabyte G41MT-USB3 fairly easily

the stuff listed above would work great although you really dont need a powerfull video card persay to do hd play back my 9600gso works fine if you wanted newer the gt 520 and gt430/440 would work just fine

also alot of decient tuners come with remotes the good ones can be used to control your pc as well or you could get one of the small logitec keyboard + trackball remotes

Would a GT 210 work for this?

Also would I hook the Comcast Hd cable box straight to the tv tuner?

Most TV tuner cards will come with a WMC7 compatible remote. Basic hardware should handle it all just fine as well.

Once you have all your hardware figured out pick up any valid copy of Win7 and you will have WMC7 which is very capable once modded. Go to http://www.hack7mc.com/ and download media browser, and movie library. These two used together make browsing your movie collection a much better experience. Movie library will automatically download dvd cover art and the synopsis for the film.

I have the same video card in my bedroom setup.

Also, do you plan on using a reciever or just having it to go straight to the tv?
