Upgrade Advice

Hey guys, so with the recent knowledge that AMD will not be catching up anytime soon with Intel in real-world applications I'm debating on going Sandy Bridge and possibly Ivy Bridge in the future, should the price be comparative to what Sandy Bridge is now (hoping that this lack in competition doesn't drive prices up....) I purchased my 955 last summer, and now I wish I would've waited the extra 5 months for SB.

As noted in my sig rig, I have a 955 Be currently running at 3.7Mhz 24/7 because it can't take the heat in Battlefield 3 from max cpu usage and a lot of gpu usage at 4.0. I'm looking at Sandy because it consumes less power and is cooler than my Phenom II. Plus, it doesn't have as stringent temperature caps!!

My question given the fact that it is going to cost me ~$350 to get a new motherboard and the 2500k, is if the performance increase from my 955 to 2500k worth the money? I'm running watercooling gpu+cpu, so I plan on doing some decent overclocking with it too. If I get another 6970 in the next year or so, I KNOW that my 955 is going to bottleneck them. Should I just wait a while and see what happens with BD or go ahead and make the switch to the blue side with a Rev. 3 Mobo?

Thanks for the input!!

I would hold off in your situation. Wait for Ivy Bridge.

I think I'm gonna wait too. See how BD develops and the timing of IB.
