GTX 470 SOC , further overclocking and few questions?

post #1 of 8

Hello, i recently bought a gtx470 SOC from gigabyte, card is awesome but i wanted to overclock further, now i bought card from a guy that bought it from a local hardware rewiew site, because they sell equipment after they rewiew it, now on that rewiew they used original divers that come with the card, 197.xx and with those drivers gigabyte OCguru worked properly, unfortunately that was a year ago and now new drivers give much better scores in 3dmark and games, i currently use forceware 285.35 ( for bf3 beta ) , and with them oc guru is totaly ****ed up and it"s not working, i keep it on just to make my power phase led"s on, for oc-in i use msi afterburner, now on the rewiew they sayed that they successfully overclocked to stable 780/1560 with a little voltage bump, i tried voltage bumping all the way up to 1.06v (1.012 is stock) and when i start dirt 3 maxed out it crashes after 3-4 minutes, screen just goes black and i have to restart, it doesn"t matter how much voltage i give it , it always crashes , now the funny thing is , if i run a dx10 aplication like msi kombustor it"s gonno be stable at 780/1560 even at stock voltage,but if i run dx11 , haven benchmark or dirt 3, it crashes no matter how much i overvolt, so i was wondering what could the problem be and how much volts do you give your"s cards to get some overclocks and how much can you overclock memory, mine starts giving artifacts already at 1700mhz (1674 stock) , so i suspect this might be a driver problem , tell me your"s opinions and expiriences with this card, also is it possible to make msi afterburner go under 400mhz on gpu and is it possible to make power phase led"s work withouth oc guru or default drivers. ( sorry for bad english, i"m from croatia )

i think its a driver problem too, and since the bf3 beta stopped you dont need the drivers atm

i had about the same problems until i read another thread advising;

try the 275.33 drivers.

and that fixed it for me

i used driver sweeper to remove old drivers and i installed one"s you reccomended but problem is the same, maybee i really need a massive voltage bump to do 780mhz, what do you think , should i go over 1.06, i saw i guy on this forum maxing out his slider to 1.08 to do 810mhz so maybe i really need some voltage :/

i tried maxing out the voltage slider (1.087) and it crashed even sooner, it hasn"t even leaded the game this time

i cant say how much mV you can put on the card.
i've got another series, but your problem is the same as mine was.
and the thread i read it was'nt the 500 series but it helped me.

so it was worth a try

i found a solution, card works normally with 258.96 drivers , and thay give scores as good as 280.xx , still if someone has this card could he tell me witch drivers is he using?

AAAHH ****, i tried 3dmark11 and 258.96 score lower when card is overclocked than 280 when card is on default, i fell like trowing it out of the window, this card absolutley can"t be overclocked if one of those 2 drivers are not used, ****.
