Wow, I did not expect this kind of response. OK, so here's my thoughts... I'm planning a build for early next year (so everything is subject to change) and I want to build a monster folding machine. I will not be trying to SLI my cards, but here's what I'm planning right now:

Asus P8P67 Deluxe R3 LGA 1155 P67 MB;
Three GTX 460s (if I can find ones I can WC if not will have to change the GPUs);
Corsair 800D Case
2600k Processor;
16GB Corsair Vengence Memory;
Corsair AX1200 PSU;
Corsair H70 (to cool the CPU);
and whatever WC components I need to WC 3 GPUs with a 3x120 Rad mounted in the top of the case.

Like I said, this is just a preliminary thought, I haven't done all my research yet, but I thought I would ask about this MB because the discription confused me. Anyway, thanks for all the help and if you all have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

Yea as mentioned above, that motherboard only has room for three GPUs, and is really only geared towards two GPUs. The "quadSLI" is referring to two dual GPU cards like a pair of 590s. If you want to cram GPUs in then the P67 WS Revo is the better choice due to having more PCIe slots with a better slot spacing.

Also make sure that whatever GPUs you get are more powerful than a 460 at the least, and are from Nvidia. This is because first of Nvidia is much better at folding than AMD/ATI, and secondly you want a 460 minimum because they are about the weakest cards that can run the advmethod WUs for GPUs. These GPUs are preferable in a situation like yours because they use up much less CPU power to run the GPUs, so your CPU would be able to fold without being constrained by the GPUs. Otherwise with 3 GPUs folding just regular GPU WUs you might have to give up on of the thread of you CPU to run the GPUs smoothly, the advmethod WUs would allow you to use all your hardware to it's fullest.

Also the NH-D14 is a better cooler than the H70 for about the same money.

If you are going to build it next year, just get the midrange 2011 socket chip, can't remember the exact numbers on it, but it has 6/12 threads on it for around 550 i think.

edit: Core i7 3930K is the name.

Yea I haven't heard of any octocores for the consumer market, especially not at launch. He might have meant for servers though, Deeeeebs plays with more expensive toys than the rest of us.

This might be an option to, but that will probably depend on pricing. I like the 2600k because I can pick it up for under $300 and I know it can crunch hugeadv WUs, even with one thread dedicated to the GPUs.

I did mention that if you get GPUs that are 460s or higher you can run advmethod GPU WUs that will allow you to run 3 GPUs without having to give up a CPU thread.
