Make sure ALL power pins are plugged in. There should be 2 (the big 24 pin and the small 8 pin).

If that is fine, check your power button header to the case. It's a 2 pin connector from your case to the board. Sometimes that is loose and so the front panel power button won't work.

If that doesn't work, pull out ALL peripherals (sound cards, blu-ray, hdd/ssd, discrete GPUs) and see if it will boot without them. If yes, plug them in one by one and continue.

edit: another common error is putting extra stand-offs in your case that is shorting the board from the back. Make sure that isn't an issue too

I check3d all the connections and did what you said, at first I thought it was my power button because it picks and chooses when to work. But that's not it, I hit the clear cmos button on the board.. nothing. When I hit the power button on the board it makes a slight beep and does nothing, do you think I got a doa board?

Do you have a spare power supply to test? Or a power supply tester?

Just process of elimination... could be connectors or something else not discovered yet.... but, seeing if anything is different with another power supply or testing your current power supply is an idea to try.

Everything in this rig is new, the power supply worked 3 weeks ago... and my msi gd55 b3 failed which is why I bought this board. I really don't know what else is left to check. I requested a replacement. Thanks for the help guys

You could try pulling the board out from the chassis, putting onto an anti-static mat(IMPORTANT!) Then remove the PSU from the chassis. Remove everything from the motherboard except the RAM and CPU/heatsink/FAN.

Now plug in your 24/8pin connector into the motherboard. Plug the PSU into the wall.

Now...look for the System Panel Header. It's the area where you plug in your power button connector, HDD LED...etc. Find the 2 pins that says "PWR BTN". Take a thin piece of metal like a screwdriver or something, and short those 2 pins (you are essentially turning on the system). Hold it for a couple seconds until you hear the motherboard turn on.

If it still doesn't turn on, then it could be defective m/b, or PSU (hard to say until you can prove the PSU will work on a different board).

It's a pain in the @$$. Hope this helps narrow down the search
