I'll just give my opinion, as I had 2x HD6970 2GB and now I have 2x GTX580.

I'd choose Nvidia for the fact that;

1. They tend to have more stable drivers
2. They do better than AMD cards at DX11 Tesselation
3. Their stock coolers are a lot quieter than the AMD stock coolers, even at same fan RPM's.

If I had to choose right now, between re-buying my 6970's, or a pair of 570's, I would have gone for 570's instead.

However, that does not mean I didn't like the HD6970's, I did, never had driver problems with them, they performed better than I expected, and they did a great job at tesselation too.

However, you already have an HD6970, so no, I would not swap to a GTX570, as you'd lose money in doing so, keep the HD6970, it is as good as the GTX570.

Just my thoughts.

As much of an Nvidia and Intel fanboy is, I still think you should keep your GPU. As far as I'm concerned, the GPU market is relatively stable and equal between the competitors. The CPU market is irrelevant in this case. As to whether you should buy another 6970, which is what you were asking, if it's cheaper, yes.

I guess it is almost impossible for proper discussions and suggestions on OCN here now. Fanboys will always ruin it. Can you guys really not understand that people who make threads such as this want fair opinions and not one-sided crap. Almost every thread with "Should I get AMD or NVIDIA" there is somebody who will either say "X card blows up/can't overclock" or "Y card has bad drivers/poor tessellation". Lay off the excuses.. :/

Anyway, to the OP:
I would suggest you keep the 6970 you have in your current rig, and if you are building a new one (why?.. Is it for somebody else or do you want 2? o.O) I would say get whatever is cheaper out of the 2. They are about equal in performance, 6970 maybe a little bit faster overall (more so at 1600p+).

I have a NVIDIA GPU and I see Shattered Horizon uses PhysX - do I see benefits?

Probably not. While Shattered Horizon uses PhysX and can use GPU accelerated PhysX, it does not have any GPU-only effects that would require a NVIDIA video card. So you get the exact same game on ATI and NVIDIA cards. As the game is mostly limited by your video card performance, it may actually be beneficial to turn off GPU PhysX for Shattered Horizon on NVIDIA cards as this ensures all video card muscle goes towards the graphics rendering - a CPU can take care of the physics just fine and odds are it will have spare cycles while your video card doesn't.

If you have a separate dedicated NVIDIA PhysX GPU or are running multiple video cards in SLI, then by all means, GPU PhysX also works - whichever gives you the best performance.

OP if you can live with noise, heat and power consumption you should consider the gtx 480, can grab one for cheap and perform close to the 570

I read a little bit on "The Ball" thread he was running some old tech but I will say you technically beat me there. On the other thread it got me thinking "How old are these games?" so you got me. I could have sworn there used to be a force PhysX processor to GPU/CPU option.

agree

and i've have that 6950 mate and its fine. YES there are advantages to both cards. just unless u are unhappy with your 6970 stick with it. game on max setting now are made to push the top cards 580 6990 and all the others.

drivers are not bad, they could always be better?

Why do you ask "reasons why i should switch to nvidia" whos told you some thing to make you ask that question??

The prob here on this forum is that you have some experienced ppl with conflicting points of view.

But don't sell your 6970 for a 570, because its only a side upgrade. if your going to do it get a 580 or another 6970 if you want more performance
