First time overclocker

Thread Starter
Hello all,
I recently just built my own computer, and it went great, very rewarding. However, I have the itch to start overclocking and feel if all goes smoothly it may become a pretty cool and addicting little hobby. My rig has an Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 Mobo, and i5-2500k CPU and a Sapphire HD 6970 GPU. Which would you recommend I overclock first, the GPU or the CPU? I really just want to be able to get the most out of the games I play with the hardware I have available. Also, if anybody could direct me to some decent guides on overclocking, that would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First you'd need an aftermarket cooler, make sure you identify your the price point you are willing to spend at. Then look at reviews for individual coolers at that price.

Then read-up on guides located in the Intel CPU forum on OCN, there you will find most, if not all, the info you need
