Got a 1tb hdd-how to upgrade?

Thread Starter
Ok, so i know very little about hard drives as you can probably tell from this whole thread.
From my sig rig and a hdd in there how could i make a system with a faster hard drive.
i have about 100£ to spend and i was thinking of buying an SSD but my OS is on my hdd so would it even make it faster?

Not really sure how it works with more than one hdd/ssd to be honest.

Thanks for any help

You would have to install your OS on the SSD to make it faster. Unless you wanted only certain programs/applications to be faster, then just install them on the SSD. Alternatively you could set up a RAID with multiple hard drives working to together to increase speed.

Ok if i did RAID with 2 hdd's would I need to buy the exact same hdd?
If not which should I get, because would it be worth buying a much smaller- faster one?

Get the exact same hdd
If you get let's say a 500gb one, it would reduce both of them to 500gb each for a total of 1tb
Make sure u back up your files before going raid though if you choose that option
And raiding your hdd will be formatted

OK so I will get another TB for 2TB.

What do you mean by that?
Are you saying if I did RAID then my original Hdd will be wiped>?
Or will the files split?

Thanks

If you are going for raid 0 for extra performance
It splits the information between the drives
When u do the initial set up
It will wipe all the information on your HDDs
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong
But I'm pretty certain

Yes you will have to wipe everything and install on the RAID after creating it. *then* the files will be split as they will be added to the new array. Do read the wikipedia page on raid.
Understand what it is you're doing before doing it

Also make sure you read a guide and check if your mobo supports raid as well
