Is my hard drive dying?

Thread Starter
6 weeks ago I asked on here if my PC issues were due to my harddrive. I gave up and reinstalled a windows and it went away. Fast forward to today...

Overnight I copied 80GB of pictures to my laptop, now the problem is back

The problem is windows will randomly freeze, not even windows is responsive. I can either wait 5 minutes or restart my laptop. I'm not running anything that takes a lot of processing power, I'm using 1 tab of google crome googling something and it just freezes.

BTW I am using a 9 month old 320GB WD black.

Last time this occurred I was using a program that permanently erases files by filling the harddrive. The program never deleted itself and the harddrive was completely full, I deleted the files, but the freezing never went away.

you could run some checks with hdtune and maybe clear some temp files and such with ccleaner or atfcleaner

have you tryed windows disk check or whatever it is the one on disk properties

but it dose sound like you may need to replace it i had a WD 80GB HDD that did that for the last 3 years then recently crap out on me

did last 6 years tho some drives last for years others not so much

do a disk check through windows maybe some bad sectors that the hdd is trying to read from causing the frezing

there are some utilitys to clone the drive if you need to replace it im guessing you will need to use your desktop and some adapters to clone it tho
