[AMDblog] Our Take on AMD FX - Page 6

Okay, so what if Bulldozer is good at multi-threaded apps? It's only better, in very rare places, than the 2600k, and only by a small margin. Now, the 2600k is consistent with its performance everywhere, while Bulldozer is worse than Phenom II in single thread apps, and barely better than 2600k in multi-threaded apps. When people are building machines with $1500+ budget, I'm sure they wouldn't mind forking over an extra $40 for the 2600k and some awesome performance consistently, not rarely.

Not to mention the ugly power consumption...

The CPU mostly only handles the bandwith netween the GPU and the program, once it is able to handle all of the data, there is no more gain to be made from the CPU assuming it doesn't do much else (like physics)

People seriously need to stop joining OVERCLOCK.net "The pursuit of PERFORMANCE" and then start saying how that kind of stuff is pointless.

Complain elsewhere.

Its a hobby to most, get used to it.

Its the same reason why people buy $100,000+ cars.

Do the cars need to go 200+ mph, no, but people like to know that it can. They like to tweak it so it does better

That is how people are

And I thought I was lazy. This should be on my 6 o'clock news, with the dude up on my HDTV apologising for stringing everyone along.

I brought a 990FX board. I'm pissed.
I would try to sell it.

he says nothing about the terrible single thread performance, and that bit about BF3 - it's just about the only game that worked well. not to mention the epically terrible load power draw

face it - you lost this round. don't try and do damage control. just be honest. i'm an AMD fan admittedly, but this is pretty disappointing, and there's really no reason i see to go with BD over a 2500K or even the Thuban chips

this release really was a disappointment.
Yeah, if they want to look ahead they should be developing something on the side and release soemthing else for the now. I know AMD probably doesn't have the R&D to do anything full scale, but they could at elast have something on paper.

On the surface this whole looking ahead thing sounds great...but when the CPU will be able to utilized properly it will be obsolete so it won't really matter. It would like a Q6600 today...I mean, it is decent yet, but no one thinks much of it.

Actually, RTS games and multi-GPU scaling benefit from a faster CPU.

If you are running lightly threaded apps most of the time, then there are plenty of other solutions out there.
So is he telling us to go back to Phenom II or directly to Intel?

I just sincerely hope that AMD's fail CPU department doesn't rub off on the GPU department.

Atleast part of the company is doing things right. Last thing we need is fail GPU's like the 2900xt.
