Buying new memory please advise

Thread Starter
I want to buy new memory to upgrade my old motherboard:

Asrock 775 Twins HDTV R2.0
2x 2GB UNB PC2 6400 cl5" merk "Apacer for 35 euro secondhand

so total 4 GB.

Now I have 2x 1GB Ram. 667 PC2 5300/PC5400 (not sure which stands for 667)

Now I heard about the chipsetlimitation of 4 gb and that in the os it shall be less..

Im using this system in combination with AMD HD 6570 2048 MB.

I also heard something, but im not sure if I remember correctly that the chipset reservers some for the videocard.(that's why some cases report having only 3,5/3,25/ 3 gb in OS)

Will my videocard in this case give trouble to have appear 3GB RAM mininally appear in the OS?

2048 MB normal ram + 2048 videocard RAM is also 4GB...? Maybe it's about the amount of memory adresses im not sure.??

Or am I wrong here?

I want to be sure everything will work before I buy it.

VRAM and actual system RAM have nothing to do with each other. Your mobo only supports up to 4gb of ram, plus what you have in there right now is not only 4gb instead of 2gb, but is also at a faster speed (800mhz vs. 667mhz).

So to answer your question, no you can't add that ram.

My motherboard does support 800 mhz.

Though if I would mix a 2gb and 1gb module I could just lower the 800 mhz one to 667 mhz right?

the Mhz Is the speed at which the stick is running, Which you can adjust and change.

Nobody is adressing the issue of the topic here. Except morgofborg..

The chipset reserves some adresses for pci,IDE, SATA etc and for Videocard, and normal ram that's why you can only see 3,0/3,5 gb ram in 32 OR 64 bit OS.

Now since the chipset takes the VIDEOCARD into account, and my videocard is 2048mb. Will it interfere with making 3.0/3.5 gb usable in any OS?
