New Here and Need Some Good Advice

Hi all new here and this would be my first post (please show mercy on the noob )

In 2 weeks I'll be putting in an order for a new PC, So I've decided to do some home work for the new PC since my last build was a couple years ago, which was:

AMD Athlon x2 64 5600+ @ 2.9Ghz
ASUS M2N-E AM2 nForce 570 Ultra
BFG GeForce GTX 280
Kingston 4Gb DDR 400 (PC 3200)

So after browsing for video cards I've come face to face with a brick wall. I'm hoping to run BF3, Skyrim and future releases without any hardware issues. After reading a few post here I still can't really get me head around this issues of either going green or red.

Since I've been into building my own PC's I've always gone with the green, but red is starting to look good to me. My issue right now is this. Do I go with the SAPPHIRE Toxic Radeon HD 6950 or ASUS GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) ENGTX580 ? After reading this post http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/113...l#post15253189 on how to unlock the Toxic from HD 6950 to HD 6970 is one good reason I'm still looking at this brick wall.

Here's the comparison between the cards:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...E14-121-429-TS

Now the differences other than the huge price gap lol. Look like red has more VRam which I hear is good, but for me green has always been a power house. Even with my current old build I'm still able to run the BF3 beta relatively smooth. If you look at the comparison the red has, 1408 Stream Processing Units and the green has 512 Processor Cores whats the difference between Units and Cores ? and on green it has Core Clock 782MHz and Effective Memory Clock 4008MHz why doesn't red have these ?

I'm also just going with one card for now and maybe in a month or two after the build buy the same card I decided to go with for crossfire/sli which ever is the best now I don't know lol.

Anyway some help and advise would really help

The 580 will do a better job, but at a steeper pricepoint. IF you are OK with running somethings on high or lowering the AA, then a 6970 may be a better option.

An unlocked and overclocked Toxic 6950 can beat a stock GTX 580 and stock 6970 at a price point of about $280.

Heres a good review about it at the [H].

Heh ... that was a GOOD post huh ?

Hmmm ... let's see a GOOD GTX-580 will run you about $500.00 +/- ... /or ... for $540 you can get TWO Sapphire TOXIC's, w/ FREE GAMES that ONE Un-Locked & OverClocked will reach stock GTX-580 performance levels ... and TWO of them in X-Fire, well can someone say NO BRAINER !

I don't know why people are making daily threads of 580 vs 6970 wich to buy. If you want cheaper go 6970 if you can afford a 3gb 580 get that as it is better at tessalation, has physx ( some games use it like battlefield 3 or batman, mafia II, etc ) , has CUDA wich improves some processing ( ex: in games, or transscoding, or in CAD , etc ) , has a futureproof 3gb of video ram and cand overclock like mad even on air ( stock ).

If you expect to see people search and read the other 17 threads a week that start on the same topic, don't hold your breath. Its the same on every single internet forum no matter the topic, from dishwashers to cars people will ask the same stuff over and over again. I actually have some replies saved in a notepad file to just cut and paste, its so predictable. Usually the posts are (like OP, no offense) new to the forum they're asking on and don't know how to search.
