Q6600 @3ghz passes OCCT & Prime but reboots in games?

Alright so I've got a Q6600 @ 3ghz on a P5N-E 650i mobo. I did the pencil mod that eliminated vdroop. Vcore is 1.33v-1.34v constantly under load or idle. I can pass OCCT CPU tests and Prime95. No heat issues aswell. However in games, in the menus or shortly after loading into a level, the computer will reboot. There isn't a blue screen and no errors. It justs asks me to reboot windows normally or into safe mode.

I've got my ram unlinked, but setup to run 1:1.
FSB QDR = 1333
Memory @ 667mhz
Memory @ 2.178v since its rated @2.1v
Loosened my timings to 5-5-5-15-2t from the stock 4-4-4-12
Raised tge NB to 1.565v and temps are still good

Do I have bad memory, bad mobo, bad cpu? Don't understand why it passes stress tests, but reboots in games! Sometimes it reboots randomly surfing tge net

how long did you test?

try raising vcore a bit. if it still fails with more than 2-3 notches, go for you ICH/MCH voltage and up it by a notch. make sure that you set the pci clock to 100MHz and not auto. Could cause problems when the gpu is more in use as it will in your games.

Tested it for like 3 hours. Ran the OCCT intel burn test too for the full hour. Tried raising the vcore, but that didn't help. Now if I run the Q6600 @ 3ghz it does blue screen sometimes trying to run NFS:Shift. It either reboots or blue screens while trying to look at cars in my garage. If I put the Q6600 back to 2.4ghz I can game no problem.

Really considering buying a P35 mobo for around $50 so I can get this Q6600 up to 3.2ghz. I think this 650i mobo is the problem?

im leaning towards maybe your psu being a issue if it does it in games when cpu and gpu are stressed but not when the cpu only is stressed. Run the occt psu test thing that stresses the entire system.

the games haven't even got to the point of running though to stress the PSU. The PSU is also brand new...bought it this month. It's a 620w Antec High Current Gamer...basically a seasonic s12ii

I'm going to try it and report back though
post #6 of 13
games stress the gpu soon as its loaded even the menu takes the gpu from idle to full gpu load and starts to fill up its memory also.

Well I loaded up my overclock settings. Got into windows clicked on OCCT and before it started loading it rebooted. I let it reboot. Tried it again and it was working for about 10 seconds and then rebooted again.

I reverted back to stock speeds, but kept the same voltages. Going to run the PSU test right now @ stock speeds

What games?

I actually used to have a P5N-e SLI. Terrible board for OCing quad core CPUs. Suprised you even got 3ghz at all.

Wouldn't a 2.4ghz and 3.0ghz cpu use the same amount of power if they are using the same voltages? It's running the PSU test fine right now as I type this.

If an overclocked CPU does indeed draw more power even at the same volts maybe it's the power coming from my wall? I get a strange popping sound from my speakers when I pull the chain on my overhead fan in my room to change the speed.

Need For Speed Shift. Haven't really gotten around to testing any other games. Figured I'de keep trying tht one since I found a problem.
