This is not legal. OEM licenses are made for single computers only. A motherboard warrants a new copy of win7. The choice is yours.

I believe there is a way to de-activate your key so you can use it again.

Call Microsoft and explain the situation. It's their license and their product. That or take some comp-sci classes at your nearest school that's part of the MSDNAA?

This is very simple.

An OEM license is tied to the motherboard. It cannot be used with any other motherboard.

A Retail license is not tied to the board, which is why you pay more. This allows you upgrade your hardware including the motherboard.

A single license, no matter whether OEM or Retail can only be used on a single computer (no matter what board it is licensed on/for at that current time) at any time.

Very simple.

Look at pricing - Retail on average is $180-200 and OEM is $80-100. Big difference.

All the OEM copies I have used (about 10 now) come with 5 activations, it says so right in the fine print on the white OEM case. I have no issues with using it on different setups.

Not going into details. But about once a year I Kill Disk my computer. I have upgraded to windows 7 multiple times.

I kind of doubt there is an amount of uses thing. They just trust that you're not mass distributing it. Maybe something like auditing where you have 1 computer that's using the windows 7 and no other computer is using it.
