Physx or waste

Thread Starter
So I was bored at work today so I decided to research more about physx. I am still a little unsure about how much 'power' is required when choosing a card. I know the computing is done in the gpu itself so ram is n/a. As far as I see it has something to do with the amount of CUDA cores... but I still don't know how many would make it worth it.

For example, I found http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127580 which is a slim $25ar. The card is on nvidia's list of compatible physx cards so I know it'll work I'm just wondering it it'll be good enough or if I shouldn't waste my money.

As I understand, enabling physx will put more stress on my gpu since there will be more elements to render so I won't ultra anything with a GTX 460... I just don't know if it's worth it.

Sorry if I'm rambling... it's not even late but it's been a long stressful week

anyways... you guys think the linked card is worth the green? (or any applicable card <$50)

Keep your money, physx isn't worth that price. I have a 8600GT laying around I could easily install for physx but it just isn't worth it.
A gt 430 isn't enough to do physx on its own.

There's a test floating around that shows a gtx 580 + a low end physx card being SLOWER than just having the 580 do physx and regular GPU stuff. IMO it's not worth it. If you like physx, just sacrifice other settings. If it's not worth it, don't bother.

GT430, having 96 shaders, is not too bad a Physx card. Obviously it is not the best and is far from it. It should be taken as a very very basic entry level Physx card.

I personally do not advise actually spending money to buy a Physx card unless:-
a. Your wallet is getting too thick in your trousers' back pocket to make your rear comfortable
b. You really really enjoy Physx effects and those few Physx games out there are your favourites (ie if Batman Arkham City, Batman Arkham Asylum and Mafia II...are your games)

If so, then I suppose US$25 for the GT430 is not 'unthinkable'.
It will help out your GTX460 to do Physx effects. The 2 charts below give examples with GT240 (also with 96 shaders) as Physx card.
(Edit 1: if your monitor has lower resolution (eg 1280x1024) than the tested resolution of 1920x1080 of the 2 charts here, then I suppose the fps might be high enough for the GTX460 to do Physx as well)

On the other hand, if your financial is not strong, I would rather saving the money and prepare to upgrade the 'crappy' monitor and the aging CPU.

As said.. not worth it. I have an 8800gt which would be decent... but what physx games are there? Unless you love a game so much you can justify spending the extra money just to play it... don't bother.

IMO the only game that does a good a job on PhysX is Batman Arkham Asylum. I have GTX460 with PhysX enabled @ 1080p and it has smooth frame rate on Batman.

Not to mention that the physx effects in that game are actually really cool.
