Post error "5A" Bulldozer

Thread Starter
I just received my FX-8120 and ASRock extreme4 today. When I turn my computer on I get the error "5A" and a black screen. I looked up the code and it's a "Internal CPU Error" but what does this mean? I really need my computer this weekend for the GeForce LAN so I'm in desperate need of help. frown.gif

hopefully you have another amd cpu around..because you're going to have to drop one in and update the BIOS...you won't have to install windows if you have a flash drive and linux cd..

How do I boot from a flash drive so I can update BIOs?

Edit: So I drop in my Athlon X2 to update my BIOs? This would only make sense.tongue.gif

Yep, go ahead and switch to your X2. The mobo's manual will tell you how to flash BIOS.

Go to your motherboard manufacturers website and look for a bootable bios along with instructions.
Here's a guide that should work just ignore any steps involving an msi bios.

hey guys ,

My friend just bought FX 8120 and ASRock Extreme 4 990FX and he got the same problem black screen and 5A Internal CPU Error.
According to cpu support list of this board the cpu run only on bios p1.30 and higher.
How can he update the bios if he don't have older AM3 cpu and he can't enter the bios ?????

I guess the first option would be to shell out ~$35 for an AM3 Sempron and use it to flash the BIOS. Then he would also have a spare CPU for troubleshooting future problems, or I guess he could sell it.

The second option would be to return the 990FX Extreme4 and pick up a 990FX Extreme3, which is a more recent board and ships with BD-compatible BIOS already installed. Extreme3 does have some drawbacks though, mainly that it has half as many power phases which could limit overclocking.

There may be other boards that already have BD-ready BIOS installed, but you would have to go to the manufacturers website for each board and look at the BIOS update history.
