$750-$800 build

Thread Starter
My friend is finally transitioning over to 1155 from his old 775 setup. I don't know much about 1155 so I was hoping you guys could help me out. He has a budget of $750-$800.

- Very adamant on getting Intel. He has some personal issues with AMD or something.
- No aftermarket cooling is needed because he doesn't know much about computers.
- No SSD required
- Graphics do not have to be stellar. He just wants to play Starcraft 2.
- Case = More LEDs the better...
- NO OS needed.
I hope you guys can get together a good build for him. Thanks

Processor: 2600k
Price: $200 (MicroCenter bundle savings w/ motherboard)

Motherboard: P8Z68-V
Price: $170 (MicroCenter)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Price: $50-$60 (Newegg)

Hard Drive: 1TB Samsung F3 or 1TB Seagate Barracuda
Price: $50 (Staples deal or NCIX-US)

Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer or Cooler Master 922
Price: $80 (Newegg)

Cooler: Hyper 212+ (allows for EASY overclock to 4.45Ghz via 1-click BIOS button)
Price: 25$ (Newegg)

Graphics Card: AMD HD6850 or 6870
Price: $160 or $180 (respectively - and could be had for less with deals)

Total: ~$740

Check Slickdeals for better prices, but those are usually what they're at.

Also, you might not even really need the GFX card... the HD3000, which is built in to the 2600k, is not so bad and might be able to play StarCraft at high settings.

You did read the OP, right?

couple of mins, I will post one for you...

EDIT:
Ok, here you go. I didn't see you say anything about NOT needing an OS. I presumed he is carrying over his monitor, keyboard, and mouse as well as any speakers headphones and such.

The total before rebates (lots of them) is $823.89, but it has everything.

Personally not a big fan of the case, but it fits the bill of your shiny, lol.

Hope this helps you out!

Grand Total:* $783.92

Take in mind, this is WITHOUT any rebates, combo prices, or any sort of promotions.

If he doesn't like the case, there are plenty of cases out there in the price range. if he wants to spend more, you can also lower the video card to a HD 6850 or gtx 460 and get a more flashy case.

EDIT: Just realized, this build will absolutely blow sc2 out of the water. Maybe an inspiration for a new build for myself :#

Cheers!

Does he not have a PSU from his 775 setup? Is he going to overclock?

Hes going to be using his 775 rig for a HTPC. Everything is going to be from scratch on the new build and he is not going to overclock.

Well, I guess I just forgot the RAM (assumed he had psu, mouse, monitor, etc...) but you could get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231445

After doing some research, that looks like it's the best 1.5v ram and its usually ~$60 (NEWCUSTOMER10 -- Coupon that takes off $10)
