hey guys im looking into getting a better router then the POS i got right now and i dont know what i need. Im a gamer first thats a fact and i need the most out of my router but i got 3 other people connected and a few wireless devices thatr are mostly turned off. my big questions are these

#1 What would be the Best wireless router i could get for gaming but still share with the rest of the family?

#2 Does it make a difference if im wired to the router or go wireless and why?

#3 If wireless is the best option what would be the best one to get to go along with the router?

If everybody else that uses it is happy with the performance of you current router, I would stick with it and just run some cable to your gaming rig (fastest and cheapest option)
If running a cable is out of the question, go for a powerline solution, there are plenty of options available but I use this...

In short, go wired for gaming, its the most reliable and fastest option.

well as it stands right now it goes modem>wirelessrouter then from that im on line one bro is on line 2 and mom is on line 3 now we also have some wireless devices like i said but they are off for the most part. so i understand that having a wired connection is better but if i were to get a highend wireless router would i see better connection speeds hardwired or wireless?

also for reference i got a Cisco wnt310n and am looking for something better.

ASUS RT-N16 is the best router hands down. Wired always is more reliable than wireless.

something like this

Modem>motherboard>router.
You could turn a dedicated PC w/ 2 lan ports into a router and use your existing router as a wireless access point for wireless.

Google or youtube pfsense or m0n0wall. Should be plenty of info and tutorials to get you started.

A computer as a router will blow away any consumer router you can get in wired performance.
