BTW hl, please give me an update on fixing the parking heads issue if possible.
I may be getting the WD green, although it probably would be EARX, not EARS.
I'm not expecting speed. The parking delay is what was problematic, not the speed of the drive.

In post 16, WD confirms the WDidle3 utility will work with the WD20EARS (amongst others). You may have to inquire about the EARX to be sure.

My drive used to slip into "Power Save" mode, drove me crazy. In Power Options, I set the Hard Disk tab (to spin down after a set period of time) to Never. As far as I can tell, and listening to the drive, it's always spooled up and ready to go.
Reading up on WD's site, these drives are apparently set to spool-down (or park) after 8 seconds.

Hardly. If the drives are taking a significant performance hit due to the heads parking after 8 seconds, simply letting the customers know about this feature and how to disable it would be more akin to buying a Prius with an easy to flip switch under the hood that took startup time from a slow 5 seconds down to 1 (unless I'm misinterpreting how much lag the 8 sec parking actually causes).

I think WD should be in the business for enough time to fix the problem in the later EARX after so many responses

I'm curious what fix you would expect. It seems this parking feature is a main source of power savings, so disabling it in the first place may largely defeat the purpose of it being a green drive.

This is why I made my comment earlier that maybe WD should include a brief sheet detailing how the green drives work and how they can be modified if desired.

[Edit: Maybe you meant that WD should be smart enough to make the mod software work with the EARX?]
